Walwar and Badal

I was talking to my parents about walwar and badal and was wondering what your views on it are?

I personally think it’s disgusting…

…I can’t believe that some tribes back home still practise walwar, which goes against our religion, Islam gives women the right to choose who they marry and they are not an abject to be sold, I mean is that what a human being has been reduced to like a cow or a buffalo that you bring her up and go sell her to anyone who can pay you? It’s shameful… Yes we have mahr in our religion but that’s for the bride and not for her family and it’s not ridiculously high neither…

And badal is also messed up, it clearly says in Ahadeeth that badal is wrong and that such a marriage is not valid but people still do it and if one woman is being a bitch and doesn’t get on with her husband the one who was given in exchange is also given divorce for no reason and her life is messed up.

Is that all Islam means to us praying five times a day, growing a big beard and reading Quran?

It doesn’t happen in our tribe or anything, well badal sometimes does but not walwar which is seen as something shameful…

:frowning:

These practices have nothing to do wth religion but are screwed up cultural customs that have been acquired by our jahil countrymen.

Exactly, we’re a bit like the pre-Islamic Arabs in some things…

We proudly boast about being Ahl ul-Imaan and stuff but when it comes to sweeping our messed up culture away and replacing it with Islam everyone start justifying it (that frustrates the hell out of me).

I bet the Jaahil Arabs were better than us; actually they were when they were shown the light of Islam they said to hell with Arab culture and customs and they let Islam replace them…

Another thing I hate about our culture is if some person asks for protection, even if he be some fugitive criminal he has to be given protection and it’s matter of honour and that causes so many problems for the idiot who’s giving shelter both in this world and the hereafter because justice is not being done…

Life would be bliss if we all followed religion but none of us do, just lip service that’s it…

We need to make the Koran and the Prophetic Example and Words our mode of thought and our criterion between right and wrong…

i personally dont like Walawr, it should be removed from our tradition.
and badal, only for foreigners, i dont want my ppl taking revenge from theri own brothers. we should only avenge those are not from our qawm.

Pakhto Zindabad

Salaam Alaykum,

By badal I did not mean revenge but rather quid-pro-quo marriages.

I don’t agree with what you said about forgiving people of our ethnicity but not forgiving others.

My people are Muslims weather they are Pashtun, Punjabi, Bengali, Bihari, Arab or African, ethnicity is not an issue, even amongst our people they are still going to be reasons to hate each other like fights even amongst Pashtuns, like Yusufzai vs. Khattak etc.

Muslims are One Nation and the Kufaar are the enemy.

Patriotism/Nationalism is the result of Kaafir imperialism, they have conditioned us in such a way that everyone sings about how great his forefathers were but that aint gonna get us no where… we need to wake up.

Wassalaam.
