I need some really good walking shoes for the winter, for everyday use, like when I’m out on errands, etc. I need something comfortable and most important, good enough to protect a foot that broke a few years ago but still hurts if I don’t wear the right kind of shoes. I also have a bad lower back issue.

may be hush puppies?? they have all sorts of flat soft and comfy shoes...but they r not very good looking..
Some shoes need research. Earth/MBT are the exact kind of shoes that people research and get and they are very comfortable. Earth shoes in particular are very light-weight, it is like holding a feather. MBT shoes are strictly walking shoes, not running, and they are designed to burn calories as they use negative heel technology. In a regular shoe, you see a heel stand out. MBT and Earth shoes forces you to roll through the foot with each step, so you are using your entire foot to walk, from heel to toe. Negative heel means it does not have a heel that stands out, it is curve-soled. MBT’s usually come in the price range of $250 but Earth shoes are half-price than MBT’s, around $100-$125. These are the ones I would recommend as they are really good walking shoes and you burn more calories while walking which is not common with any other shoe brand. These are designed for your leg muscles.

I LOVE my dansko clogs. They are a bit expensive (around 100 US) but I wear them year round and they never wear out like most other shoes. They’re very popular with nurses and waitresses because they’re so comfortable.

Well, I’m not sure how fashionable you want your everyday shoes to be but I recently bought these shoes for my mom who has arthritis and one of her toes is twisted too, she found them to be very comfortable and soft: A2 by Aerosoles Party Fame Casual Flats
Aerosoles and Hush Puppies are both very good brands if you want comfortable shoes.
