Can anyone deny how popular still Waheed remains in Pakistan? With sexy hair style; powerful acting, he won the hearts of million of Pakistanis. Waheed, without a shadow of doubt, still consider a ‘Role Model’ for those upcoming artists, who want to work in Pakistan Showbiz.

Waheed’s performance in ‘Ahaat’ with Nadeem and Shabnam was a blast!! Definitely worth to watch!!! Thanks to the old days of STN/NTM, I’ve watched almost every film of him.

Remembering Lollywood’s Idol

**Being Waheed Murad must have been a tough job for the chocolate hero. Just imagine having to be the screen idol worshipped by thousands of cheering fans, with a hairdo and clothes being copied by the most eligible of bachelors. Not to mention being the screen sex-symbol and the ultimate ideal of the fair sex. Waheed Murad was the equivalent of Hollywood’s James Dean and Elvis Presley in Pakistan’s Lollywood. Nobody but Waheed could have pulled it off, for he had that special something that made people, specially the swinging 60s and 70s’ lot, crowd round him like bees to honey. His eyes had that magic sparkle and mischievous twist that are the essential ingredients for a starry concoction. No wonder even his marriage to Salma Waheed Murad failed to wean his female fans off him. **

Recently, a tribute to the screen idol was held by Indus Vision and hosted by Najamuzzaman at the Karachi Parsi Institute to remember the **‘Chocolate Hero’ ** of yesteryear. The night, though nippy, could not hold the crowd back, who paid homage to an actor whose talent made movie-watching a treat during the 60s, 70s and early 80s.

The evening’s proceedings started off with what else but Koko Korina, the unforgettable Waheed Murad anthem that is just as popular now as it was when it was first sung. **Among those to pay tribute to Waheed Murad and his genius were Bushra Ansari, Anwar Maqsood, Mustafa Qureishi, a recorded message of Mohammed Ali and Zeba since the latter is taking care of Ali who had just suffered a cardiac problem, Rozina, the frail-looking Shamim Ara and loads of other showbiz luminaries. **

And how could Waheed’s songs that have become the life-line of generations, be left behind in the scheme of things. Some of the performing artists who made the magic of Waheed come alive again were Najam Shiraz, Mohammed Ali Shyhaki, Khalid Waheed, Fariha Pervaiz and many more. But the high point of the evening was the reenactment of the melodious screen gems that were filmed on Waheed Murad and his female co-stars. The young boys and girls did a commendable job, specially Rozina’s daughter. The songs were choreographed by Imran Qureshi.

Many people didn’t mind the chill in the night air, but as the clock hands moved closer to midnight and then away from it, some people decided to call it a night. But the cheerful Najamuzzaman just wouldn’t hear of their departure and willed them to see the tribute to its end. The amiable host was also seen offering his chaddar to one of the lady guests who, no doubt, must have tried to use the chill as an excuse to make her exit. Later on, one saw her sitting at a table draped in Najam’s shawl. Does pampering guests get any better than this? One should think not!

Finally, Salma Waheed Murad was called on stage to remember Waheed in his capacity as a loving husband, father, and most of all, a legendary screen idol. She was joined in her glowing sentences by other stars who couldn’t seem to agree more, for Waheed still remains an undying inspiration to all those who dare to venture into showbiz.
