Be sure to have your registration card and driver’s license with you.
You only have to show your card to vote (although if you lost it they
can double check you against the voting rolls, (most people do not have their cards so don’t worry if you can’t find yours)). If you’re a first time voter, they can ask to see your state ID at the polls as well.
Do Not wear Kerry gear (tshirts, hats, etc) when you go to vote as it is against voting regulations and you can be turned away and have to stand in line all over again.
The Republican Party is posting thousands of vote challengers at
the polls all across the country. Basically, if they think you look
shady, they will challenge your voter registration. You’ll have to
provide proof that you’re who you say you are and that you’re
registered. The challenger needs to have “personal knowledge” that you
may not be registered; it’s a criminal offense otherwise. If you get
harassed by any of those vote challengers call the Election Protection Hotline 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683)
or 1-866-MYVOTE1 (1-866-698-6831). Do Not Leave Without Voting.
If you’ve got a punch through ballot, make sure all the chad is
out of there after you punch through a choice. If you ruin your
ballot, you can always request another one and they have to give one
to you. If you’re using touchscreen take your time in selecting who you want to vote for.
Registration cards are required only in certain areas of the country, though it is recommended that you bring it with you. I voted only by showing my driver's license, and I look pretty shady. :D

WHAT TO DO ON ELECTION DAY:
KNOW WHERE TO GO. In many states, you will NOT be allowed to vote if you
show up at the wrong polling place. Your board of elections can tell you
where to vote. Call today to locate your polling place. If you can’t reach
your board, call 1-866-OURVOTE.
BRING PROPER IDENTIFICATION. Proper forms of ID can include a driver’s
license, a utility bill or another document that includes your name and
address. Make sure the ID matches your address.
READ SIGNS AT POLLING PLACES for instructions on how to vote and how to
file a complaint if you believe your rights have been violated.
REVIEW THE SAMPLE BALLOT BEFORE VOTING. Ballots are often confusing, and
their designs can change considerably from election to election. If you
have questions about how to vote on your ballot, ask a poll worker or poll
monitor for help.
CHECK YOUR BALLOT BEFORE CASTING YOUR VOTE. If you are having a problem
understanding instructions, or if you just want to make sure you are voting
in the correct manner, ask to speak to a poll worker
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS CONCERNING “PROVISIONAL BALLOTS.” No voter can be
turned away in any state this year without being allowed to vote. If there
is a question about your eligibility, you must be allowed to vote on a
provisional ballot, the validity of which will be determined later. But if
you are entitled to vote on a regular ballot, you should insist on doing
so, since a provisional ballot may be disqualified later on a technicality.
KNOW WHERE TO TURN FOR HELP. It is a good idea to bring a cell phone and
phone numbers of nonpartisan hotlines such as 1-866-OURVOTE and
1-866-MYVOTE1.
BE PREPARED FOR LONG LINES. Try to get to your polling place very early
in the morning, or between the before-work and after-work rushes. As long
as you are in line before the polls close, you are legally entitled to
vote. Do not let poll workers close the polls until you have voted.
Challenges are being allowed in Ohio. Voters should not leave without voting.
CINCINNATI, Ohio (AP) – Giving a pre-dawn Election Day boost to the GOP, the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to stay an appeals court ruling allowing political parties to send people to polls in Ohio to challenge voters’ eligibility.
