Volvo has announced the automaker is recalling certain 2011-2013 S80 models over faulty transmission software. The campaign covers a total of 1,469 vehicles, which may have a software error that could prevent the transmission from downshifting from fifth to fourth gear when it should. If that happens, the engine could stall, thereby increasing the chances of an accident. According to the [National Highway Traffic Safety Administration](http://www.autoblog.com/tag/national highway traffic safety administration), Volvo will upgrade the transmission control module free of charge.
Owners can expect to be notified of the campaign on or around July 19 and may contact Volvo at 1-800-458-1552.
As you may recall, Volvo issued a recall for 2012 S80 models earlier this year for faulty wiring harnesses in the vehicles’ seats. With that issue, the problem could have caused issues with the seat belt pretensioners and air bags.
