Volunteering in Pakistan for a year

A friend of mine recently inherited over 200k USD and is interested in moving to Pakistan for a year and finding volunteer work in impoverished areas, particularly to help women and children. He has alot of questions regarding the logistics of it all so i was hoping to get some help here.
He has no family there and doesn’t know where to look or how to obtain that kind of work. Any suggestions on places he can go, websites, or phone numbers to call?

What would the average cost of living be per month. … rent, food, transportation etc

Ideally he’d like to use his money to build somEthing that could benefit the community but unsure of how much it would actually cost and what is needed most? Hes thinking along the lines of a school or shelter for battered women . Does anyone living there have suggestions or ideas?

Thanks

I think Akhuwat is a trustworthy organization.

Re: Volunteering in Pakistan for a year

my only advice to him if he decides to go to Pakistan to volunteer and that is:

he must NOT tell anyone there that he has inherited $200 U.S. his money and his life can easily be at risk if others know about it since he doesn’t know any local person there.

Re: Volunteering in Pakistan for a year

educate the children…build a school and set up a fund to provide free education to those that would otherwise not be able to afford it.
do it in a rural area.

Re: Volunteering in Pakistan for a year

What a nice person  Best of luck! He needs to be careful though, not advertising his inheritance hehe.
There is Eidi Trust that I know of…
He needs to build something he can afford to maintain (Pay electricity, food, water, wages) if he is looking to build a school or housing for women affected by domestic abuse.
here are a few ideas I can think of at the top of my head (maybe he can invest in different things?);

  1. Introduce a scholarship for students already in school (lower-middle class families) to help them continue their education (even covering 25% of their fees would help).
  2. Build a School in a rural area (promoting females to educate themselves) & include a seperate building adjoined as a Mosque?
  3. Open up a food drive; your main work is to provide basic nutritional food and clean water to the people of Pakistan and provide them with clothing twice a year (both Eids–look into donations…you’ll need sponsors/other ppl to keep up with the food cost–use social media to gather more funds). No one should ever have to beg for food and water.
  4. Build a mini hospital in a rural area
  5. Build wells in rural areas
  6. Take up on a agricultural contract (don’t know if thats possible, but it’d be wicked!) this could go hand in hand with the food drive & create jobs.

Thats all I got for now…Best of luck to your friend, he/she has a good heart MashaAllah :k:
