Ofcourse you need CDs of the OS to be installed. The virtual machine softwares create only a virtual PC for you. Just like if you would buy a new one from the market without any OS.
Read the documentation which comes with it. Everything is explained there bro.
Re: VMWare - free converter utility
How long does it take to convert one average image with this converter? And how do you allocate RAM etc? Are these options provided during the conversion time?
It only took me like an hour or so to pull in physical server to a VMWare image. And then I converted a win2k3 VPC image and coverted that, which took about an hour and a half. It depends on the size of the image. I'm going to try and convert a vista VPC image, which is about 6.5 gb.
As for RAM and other hardware you can change those settings whenever you want. Like you can add network cards, raise or lower memory, add hard drives etc. And then you can change MAC addresses too. Fun stuff.

You can actually use .iso images of cd's to do the install, cuts down the building time by half.
Re: VMWare - free converter utility
Jee Bro, but you need to create those ISOs first na. Aur zara Stonecold bhai ko ISOs ka samjaho to zara, ![]()
Thanks for the info about the VMWare-Player, I’ll surely try it.
Re: VMWare - free converter utility
Well, for Linux you can download all the .iso's for free. For windows its not that many versions and it only takes like 10-15 mnts per cd. Vista ultimate took a little longer as its a full DVD. These days MS is letting you download all the DVD's from their site in iso format, if you buy open licenses, so that's pretty convenient as well.

Yaar I thought it would be much easier for Stonecold if I told him about the CDs. I know you can download those .iso, .bin whatever images from the internet. I myself mostly use the images (with virtual CD-ROM drives under windows) so that I don't have to carry the CDs everywhere.
As far as buying licenses from Microsoft, Pakistan maiN pirated CDs 100 Rs. maiN mil jaati haiN, ab wahaN kisi ko batao to zara license khareednay ka.
Re: VMWare - free converter utility
Where do u shop in Pakistan dude, some posh malls? Regular rate for CD's is Rs. 25, with more discounts if you buy 10 or more :)

Waise I tried to dodge that Windows XP genuine thing, and it worked. Got all the updates without an "official" Windows XP, :)
