Karachi: In a startling revelation, ex-Pakistan cricketer Qasim Umar has claimed that former West Indies captain Vivian Richards used to take performance enhancement drugs before the new anti-doping regulations were enforced by the ICC.
Appearing on television talk show on Thursday, Umar, a controversial figure in Pakistan cricket, said Richards had himself confessed to him that he used to take drugs to release tension and improve his stamina and endurance levels.
“Use of drugs was common among many players and they used to transport these drugs in their kit bags,” Umar, who represented Pakistan in 26 Tests and 31 ODIs said.
Why is that we have this kind of sensationalism from the Pakistani players all the while. Little while ago it was Qadir who wanted some attention now this ..
By this startling relevation what is this guy trying to achieve apart from some free publicity for himself.

Qasim Umar, in the eighties, when he was an active player (and a pretty good, aggressive batsman) accused Imran Khan of transporting drugs. He never played for Pakistan again.
He wrote to his lowness Mr Zardari recently seeking compensation for past injustices… after 22 long years!!! which makes you wonder if this is all just a malicious propaganda against Imran as he is very vocal against Zardari - or anyone for that matter
Qasim was a middle-order batsman in the mid-80s and was thrown out of Pakistan and Muslim Commercial Bank teams (which he blames on Imran) after he accused that certain foreign players were involved in smuggling drugs in sports gear. There was no proper hearing or investigation but Qasim was thrown out of the game altogether. He then settled in England
Not defending Imran Khan here if he did verbally abuse Qasim - we all know about his hot-headed nature - or had anything to do with his sacking. Imran Khan was the King of Pakistan in those days and a cricketing department could not go against him… magar lagta hai Khan saab ne becharay ko kuch ziyada hee talkh gaaliyan sunayeen…
But Qasim is not doing the right thing IMO. If he really has a case against Imran Khan then he should file it in a court of law. It is the job of the courts to deliver justice not president or PM

Now I do admire IK for many reasons. But let’s call a spade a spade. He did great things for Pakistan cricket and humanity - well done. But if Imran has indeed wronged Qasim in the past and if his TI party truly stands for justice and fairness then he needs to come clean on the issue. This will only increase his stature and respect in my eyes
