King Viv had great reflexes and there’s no better example of that than when he walks across his crease exposing all three stumps and flicks Mike Hendricks (who was fast-medium, now a TEN Sports Commentator) nonchalantly over mid-wicket for 6. What a shot? Have n’t seen anyone playing that shot before. Also includes highlights of his 189* (The second highest one-day score ever after Anwar’s 194) against England at Old Trafford, Manchester in 1984. Richards took WI from 166-9 to 272-9 putting on 106 for the last wicket with Michael Holding (whose contribution was a mere 10 runs!) http://www.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/1980S/1984/WI_IN_ENG/WI_ENG_TEX_ODI1_31MAY1984.html
After seeing the second clip again it's actually not Hendricks but Bob Willis who was fast rather than medium fast. So the shot is even more amazing although that might have been the slower ball which Richards made into a full toss
Yes he was a true genius and despite the statistical brilliance of many others (Lara, SRT, Ponting, Miandad, Gavaskar and so on) arguably the greatest batsman to grace cricket over the last 30 years or so plus he literally 'took on the world in a cap!'
