Visual Studio/Source Safe 6.0 & Windows2003 issue

I have a few projects setup on Windows2003 server which are under source control using Visual Source Safe 6.0d. Clients are using Visual Interdev 6.0 on Windows XP Professional. Clients are experiencing intermittent problems with checking in/out files on the server. The problem goes away when I open the project on server and refresh/synchronize it. I know it sounds strange, but after that the clients are able to check out files.

I have verified that all users have appropriate permissions on both W2k3 and VSS accounts. The project folder also has proper permissions for all users as well. I have uninstalled and reistalled, Visual Studio, VSS & FrontPage 2002 Server Extension, but the problem still persists.

Are there any known compatibility issues between Windows2003 server and Visual Studio 6? I don’t have this issue with another server running Windows2000 and VS 6.

This is the error message that clients are getting:

These error messages sometimes appear on the server:

If you have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue, please let me know.

Thanks.

Re: Visual Studio/Source Safe 6.0 & Windows2003 issue

Does anyone have Visual Studio 6 setup on Windows 2003 server with Interdev project under SourceSafe? If so, have you experienced any problems?

I was looking at service packs and patches for VS 6 on MS site, and noticed that all downloads were for Windows 2000 server only. It seems that MS only supports .NET on Windows 2003.

I think as a last resort, I'll transfer VS 6 projects on Windows 2000 server.
