Re: Visual Karachi: From Paris of Asia, to City of Lights, to Hell on Earth
My maternal Grand father shifted to Bombay in the early 1940's since he was transferred and chosen Bombai.I still have my very close relatives in Sindh from my Paternal side.
What a sad journey for the city. But not only Karachi, but whole of Pakistan has gone through this sad journey.
You notice the mass exodus of hindus when Pakistan was created, and given how minorities are treated in Pakistan today, they certainly made the correct decision. I think you will have to look really hard to find a more intolerant society than the Pakistani. Unless you belong to Islam, and that to in the "correct manner", you are always going to be harassed, threatened, killed and what not.
You also notice how immigrants, for whom the nation Pakistan was created just as much as for the natives, being treated as second rate citizens. Once again you see how intolerant the Pakistani society has been from the get go.

Also, when you pass these comments next time, do visit Indian Punjab and let us tell the status of ruined mosques there.
I’m not Indian, I’m pakistani. I don’t understand why I keep on getting accused of being indian. Is it because I’m critical of the pakistani society?
Until we start recognising the faults with the Pakistani society, we will never be able to improve the situation in Pakistan.
As for the comparison with India. First of all, we shouldn’t be comparing Pakistan to India all the time. We are not on their level any more. They are sending satellites to Mars, while we are still stuck on who practices Islam correctly, and whos not worth damn all, because they are either not muslims (which is the worst sin of them all in the land of the pure), or arent’t practising Islam correctly.
And second, at least India is trying to get rid of their backward laws, while we are still stuck with ours, and no one is willing to do anything about it. Those who raise their voice, are downright murdered, and their killers are celebrated as heroes.

You may not be Indian, but for being well wisher of Pakistan, try to bring /see some positiveness in Pakistani society. You are vocal about mass exodus of Hindus at the time of partition and conveniently try to forget millions of Muslims massacred in East Punjab. So don't always see glass half empty and when you see it empty and use words 'most intolerant' word for your homeland, check whats happening and what happened in the world as well.
Re: Visual Karachi: From Paris of Asia, to City of Lights, to Hell on Earth
You bog down any country with the kinds of international conspiracies that Pakistan has been, they would be in a similarly bad situation.
Of course this does not absolve a country and its people from their individual and collective responsibility.

‘Paris of Asia?’ – Karachi
as my favorite character Lisa Simpson once said when her mother Marge Simpson referred to McGill University as the Harvard of Canada. Anything that's the "something" of the "something" isn't really the "anything" of "anything".
