Vista

Any thoughts on Vista? I like this OS, however I am facing a lot of compatibility issues with third party software.

Re: Vista

which 3rd party software?

Re: Vista

Its a new interface, I like the hang of it, but it seriously is power hungry. Current laptops just seem super slow with this os.

Re: Vista

Active X and many media software, in particular. I am not allowed to post URLs until I have more posts, however I do website listing the software issues. I will be happy to give you the link.

Re: Vista

I agree. >30 minutes on my Sony Vaio. I just might buy a second battery to ease the crunch.

As for the interface, it is heavily borrowed from the Mac OS.

Re: Vista

That I know, but the Mac OS is so stable & smooth, it works like cream, without any effort. The people at microsoft should be smacked hard in their heads...instead of launching newer versions, why don't they just friggin improve the current version, by making it more stable & reliable.

Re: Vista

Of course it will be slow on oldeer hardware! Didn’t you read the mimimum specs needed? before installing it. Specially anything wil less than 1GB Ram should be discouraged. A VGA card which supports DirectX 10 is recommended.

And I don’t see any similarity with Mac OS here? :konfused: Specially the Aero interface.

yeah with iPod maybe it is to some extent :halo:

Re: Vista

Gizzy dude, this is a brand new Toshiba Satellite series, with all the minimum requirements, but it is not what I xpected. Last year, I bought my lil sis a laptop, Dell, Inspiron series with the same config as this new Toshiba, & Ive compared the speed, there is a huge ass difference bro.

Im going to buy a new pc soon, so lets see how it crunches on that, then I'll compare it with my sister's dell pc that I also bought last year.

I think Vista should have come out with a super lite version for laptops...

Re: Vista

Windows Vista is a major improvement on the earlier versions of the OS, however it's a power hog!

Re: Vista

Hain? Last year you bought a laptop with the same specs, how is that possible? Are they still selling old stock or what.

care to share the specs of both lappies?
And which versions of Vista you’ve installed?

I can’t belive a system which was built for Vista won’t run Vista as desired.

More over, Vista comes in four different flavours, to cater for different hardware needs.

Vista Home Premium is most suitable for installtion on Laptops.

Vista - Choose an Edition

Windows Vista - Compare Editions

Which Vista is right for you

Re: Vista

Vista is slow, but with 2G mem and Dual Core it runs just like XP with 1G mem single core.

Re: Vista

I am rolling with dual core, 1 Gig RAM.

I have Vista Business, as it came pre-loaded on my computer.

On a related note MS Office 2007 is amazing, well integrated into Vista and many more user friendly features.

Re: Vista

Gizzy bro

Last year Dell Inspiron 6400M
Dual core 1.83GHz
1GB RAM

This year Toshiba Satellite A100
Dual core 1.86GHz
1GB RAM

The Toshiba is AED 500 xpensive, but the Dell was "Designed for Vista"

Anyway, I have seen that Toshiba is pre loaded with all its own software as well. Its Home Edition basic on this laptop. The Dell works fine with XP.

Re: Vista

I bought the same laptop last month, its great.
But this so-called vista was a waste, it was stopping me from downloading anything from internet, day by day the whole os was getting slower, i got fed up, i formated my computer and installed xp on it. Now im loving it.

Re: Vista

Dude, u know what, it is Xactly the same problem with me, I leave my wireless on, come back after a few hours of night out with friends, & find the internet moving slower than a snail...virtually at a standstill.

I guess, vista is a sucker of an os.
