Vista and windows xp applications

Do they work on Windows. I have not used Vista as yet. I have ordered it and I am waiting it to arrive.
I wish to install it on my Dell Power Edge 400 SC server to be used as desktop.
I have lots of applications which work on XP Pro ,will they work on Vista ?
Please let me know so that if they will not then I have to cancel the order for Vista.

Oh and yes which video card should I buy for this server grade dinosaur ?

Re: Vista and windows xp applications

Yea they must have backward compatibility. I don't see any reason that they shouldn't work.

Do upgrade your RAM to atleast 4Mb.

Re: Vista and windows xp applications

It depends on your list of applications. There are some versions of application that don't work on Vista. Just make sure u have the right versions. Most apps have done free upgrades to support Vista now so you should be in good shape.

Re: Vista and windows xp applications

It depends what softwares you use. some softwares dun work on VISTA, check with the vender if the program is VISTA compatible or not.

4MB… Vista’s calculator would take more than that :hehe:

on the real note… Vista 32 Bit only supports 3 GB max… It will show 4GB in my computer> properties, but in reality ( lets say Task manager) it will only use 3 GB..

So its going to be waste to get 4GB… Better get Vista 64 bit or wait for Windows 7

you mean 4GB :P

Yes, shouldn't be a problem. I have been using Vista Ultimate x64 ever since its release, and had no problem running any application. Sometimes you do get a warning about a program not being compatible with vista. that only happened to me once with Ipswitch WS_FTP. But an upgrade made that go away.

Any VGA card should be fine, any that fits in it, depending your needs?!
