Visiting Pakistan in a couple of weeks so need help!

Salaam ppl im goin karachi frm london in 2 weeks so i got a few questions which i hope u people can help me with.

  1. I want to get my Viglen Laptop upgraded (ram, harddisk etc.) but am not sure if this brand is known in Karachi, but can i still get it upgraded with other brand products?

  2. im going to take my phone there but t-mobile doesnt allow roaming over there. So i am probably goinh to buy the mobilink jazz prepaid sim. I know the tarrifs but could u please tell me how much the actuall sim card costs.

  3. Im going to take my pal playstation2 over there to get chipped (modded) so i can buy games from there. Is it possible for people in the Rainbow Centre to mod/chip a UK PAL machine?

  4. How much does the average DVD cost in Rainbow Centre (not original ones). And also isit possible to get old classic english films like The Godfather or Serpico.

  5. How much is the average price for a good branded 3.2million pixel digital camera?

6)Finally, i would like to know if Timberland boots are available there and the prices.

Any help will be greatly appreciated very very much.
Jazakullah and Salaam

wsalams

im in karachi and only know the answer to number 2...u'll have to buy a jazz connection and then a prepaid card...the connection is around 1400 rupees and the cards range from 500 to 1000 rupees depending on how many minutes u wana buy

if u r bringing ur phone here, do u know if it is gsm enabled? coz thats the one u need for jazz

abt all the questions u've asked regarding upgrading electronics, in case u r trying to save a few bucks by getting that stuff here, id say its better if u buy it from the UK? that way u'll have warranty on the parts and secondly u'll know its authentic stuff...there's fake stuff being sold in UNI plaza as well....so why take the risk...

abt the DVD, id think that yeah it shud be avlbl at rainbow ctr

timberland boots...maybe but im not sure

thanks alot for the reply irem. Yea my phone is gsm compatible.
i know im better off buying electronics from down here but just wanted to get an idea of some prices=
Thanks again
Salaam

u're welcome :)

im sorry i wasnt much help abt the prices...

happy travelling :)

DVD's used to cost Rs 150 at Aghas back in 2002. They would only have gotten cheaper, and not more expensive by now, I hope.

nope.. dvds are same prices faisal..

timberland boots are available in pk.. just have to go out and shop places..

however, let me warn u that try keeping the low profile and secondly dont buy anything from first or second shop.. by 5th shop u can decide whether the first 4 were okay or not..

2, new sims can cost u from anywhere between E10 to E15. so that shouldnt be a problem.

3, take playstation, shop around, technology and skills available in pk are almost close to impossible.. u can get it modded in no time..

i hope u found everything u were looking for.. :-)

pakichan,
you got some views on thr prices etc.

faizy’s right baout not buying it all from the 1st shop. watch and learn and try to research as much as possible. cause the markets here keep fluctuating.

about your laptop, im not sure. but bring it along, and find out.
irem’s right about the Jazz connections.
the PS2, definitely you can get it done from rainbow centre or even from the electronics market in saddar.
at rainbow centre aka heaven for all movie lovers, you can find just about any movie, game, show ever made any where round the world. and the DVDs until my last trip about 15 days ago cost around Rs.80 with multi DVD sets costing more according to the DVDs in the set. some new releases or any special documentaries, rare videos or banned shows, documentaries, movies etc may cost more. e.g when there was tension with india certain indian movies were sold for higher prices.
DS seems right about the prices on digi cams.
and Timberland, id say get them from the UK. you wont get them cheap if you find them here and the stocks and variety wouldnt impress you much. i dont think ive seen them on sale anywhere here.

hope it helps! :k:

i know in isl you can get a DVD(with hard case) for RS 90!!!!

But theyre pirated ones.. you dont get 'original' ones for that price..

MyStiCaL_MisS
yeah theyre all pirated ones. i havent seen a single DVD vendor claiming to be selling original DVDs or CDs in Pakistan so far. anyone selling them for a higher price saying theyre original is infact fooling his customers. originals would cost over a Rs. 1000 a DVD.
and local i.e. Pakistani movies, Dramas, songs etc are a diff story. they are mostly originals released by local companies that own the rights and even they roughly cost the same.
