Hi,
(apologies, if this is in the wrong forum)
I’ve been planning a 2 week trip to Lahore with family after 15 years, mainly for shopping. I want to buy specifically made-to-measure tailored and embroided suits etc for weddings. However, with the current pakistan situation, mainly electricity blackouts, would you advise I postpone my trip? I don’t wnat to to go all that way (from the UK) and end up with nothing. I’m assuming tailors are now taking even longer to do embroidery etc.

Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
I just got back from a 2-week trip to Lahore ... doing shopping. It's not at all as bad as they show on the news. Life is very normal. Markets are filled with people shopping at any time of the day. Electricity is a pain, but most stores have generators, so it's not too bad. I got a couple of suits embroidered, and it took about a week, which wasn't so bad.
Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
just make sure you know who the tailor is, better yet a family tailor will be best. my mom and sis were in pak, the tailor would give lame excuses of no electricity..
Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
Thanks Seabee and cricketplaya. Media do tend to over-hype situations.
Seabee, can I ask where you got your suits embroided in Lahore? or which are the most reliable?
Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
If you want great clothing and worried about safety in Lahore, why don't you come to Mumbai? You will get ten times the variety
Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
^Aapko Lahore ki variety ka bara pata hai jo aisa keh rahe hain ![]()
Tania - I’ve been to Pakistan in safer times for 2 weeks, and I have to tell you that it’s really really hard to get things embroidered and tailored within 2 weeks time frame, especially if it’s for more than one person and you’re giving the clothes to one tailor. If you know exactly what you want and you’ve done your research over the web for designs etc, then it’ll make your life easier to pick colours for kapra and show the tailor what you want. Lahore has so much to offer and I think you should really check Life3 forum for lahore shopping threads, it’ll give you a lot of information on where to go, and which shops to check out. Good luck.
Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
UUFF PLZ DONT GO TO THOSE DEIGINERS THEY R sorry to say r lottaray..lout mar machaee huwee hai,,
Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
try to plan a trip for longer.
Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
Thanks for your tips guys!
StirCrazy - there's a chance that my work may send me to Mumbai later this year so I'd rather go through work. That said, I hear that Pak has a better variety of clothes.
Sehar - I agree two weeks is not enough for getting clothes embroided but I'm not allowed to take more than two weeks off in my job. I'm more concerned about the power cuts or excuses of power cuts from tailors. Really don't want a wasted trip, but that's the risk I take I guess.
Re: Visiting Pak for shopping trip??
^ well you will then have a first hand chance to compare yourself. If this is for getting married or something, congratulations and best wishes
