check the space center, galleria/uptown and if left with anytime visit the theater district.
weather is gona be mild winter. 50s-60s .. late evenings might drop to 40s.
other than what is mentioned above, do check bijan persian grill on hillcroft, shawarma king on Richmond, Sage 400 Japanese Cuisine, Mo's the Place For Steaks on Post Oak and Taste of Texas on I-10.
Azkar, we are staying very close to galleria so I m sure we will be going there..by the way, all these places are halal? If yes, I m gonna die in food heaven :D
Khattichic... It took us a while to narrow it down to Houston..Dallas and Austin were considered too but tbh we really wanted to enjoy good food, and the children's zoo for our 14 month old boy..inshallah next time..heard a lot about bundu khan so that's a must :-)
oh well we will be there for almost a week... I really really really want to eat halal mexican.. I have heard about M&M grill in the medical center so what else.. so far here is my list of places to eat and visit:
kulfi at Aga's
baloch icecream
M&M grill
Bundu Khan
Fadis
Bismillah (just included)
Places to visit:
Kemah boardwalk
Children's Museum
houston zoo
space center
Discovery Green and Downtown islamic center
Maryam Islamic Center in Sugarland
Weather: As mentioned earlier, right now its in the 50’s/60’s here…at night it gets in the 40’s. Also in the past few days, it’s been drizzling a bit.
Food:
Bundu Khan is AMAZING! My mouth is watering just thinking about their lamb chops and chicken. Some other recs:
Kasra Persian Grill (their lamb chops are awesome; It’s not listed on the menu so you have to just ask for it)
Pasha Turkish restaurant in Rice Village
Himalaya on Hillcroft/59 (Desi food; I love their gola kabab)
Pappasitos (You must go there for tex mex; If you don’t eat non-halal meat, then get their seafood enchilada)
Downtown Aquarium (for the kids)
If you end up going to the Fadis on Meyerland (it’s like 5-8 minutes from the Galleria), then you may want to go to Piccomolo… little gelato place a few doors down (I love the tiramasu & hubby loves bubble gum).
If you’re here on a Sunday and want to do brunch, then I recommend Americas or Baba Yega. Baba Yega’s gets VERY busy so you must get there early or make reservations.
I could give you TONS of other recs but I’m not halal specific so I’m not sure how much help non-halal places will be.
Thanks paheli..I will include your suggestions in the list. We eat halal and apparently Houston has lots of it so I was hoping to try out different places for food! :-)
In my opinion Bundu Khan is way overpriced. The only good thing about them are the parathas. I would get them from there and get bihari boti from Savoy. Costs way less. Also, the attitude of Bundu Khan's owner borders on rudeness. I usually stay away from them (both locations)
Another good desi buffet is Tempura Halal Restaurant in North Houston by the Pakistani Consulate.

GtG: Call and double check but if I remember right, Kasra Persian Grill is halal. I live near the Galleria and know the surrounding area very well. Although I eat non-halal, to my knowledge, there aren’t too many GOOD halal places around here. I imagine there might be more in areas like Sugar Land but I’m not familiar with them. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
BTW, I still think for a Texas tex-mex experience, you should try Pappasitos.
Oh btw, wanted to add, at Bundu Khan, when you order paratha, you’ll actually get the fluffy puris. I found this out when I ordered parathas the 1st time I was there. The light fluffy puri is what they consider paratha. Not sure if you have a preference but I like the traditional thick parathas so this was a unhappy surprise for me. These days I stick with naan.
I live in Sugar Land and a few things that are good here are, Voss Halal/meat Fish (best desi fish I have ever eaten), baloch ice cream, Aga Juice, Yasmin Cafe (Halal burgers), Halal Church's chicken, chatkhara grill (this is in Houston but on Highway 6)....

we are back and boy it was wonderful!! 70 degrees weather and back to 10 degrees :(
anyway, food was the best.. no matter what we ate or where we ate, it was delicious!
Tempura was the best followed by landry's seafood at river walk in San Antonio!
oh wait, double loaded cheeseburger and spicy mango haberno from M&M grill... that is like food in heaven!
Our 14 month old enjoyed childrens museum so much that he didnt want to leave! we could have stayed there forever!
We also did a day trip to San Antonio to escape the city life of houston and loved it.. highly recommended.
Overall, it was a great trip.. thanks all for your help. :-)
