Visiting Dubai in april - need tips

Hello guppies l:)

I and my sister are travelling to dubai in april for 7 days with 3 kids (age 3 till 12) We need tips to what to do there, good places to visit. Any good hotels you guys can suggest, hotel location?

We want to visit Sharjah, see most of Dubai and i was wondering if we should rent a car while we are there (we live in europe, right hand driving)? Heard alot of stories about traffic in dubai, but is it really that bad?
I thouht travelling with 3 kids, car should be a good choice..but i have no clue, so please come with ideas and suggestions…

Thank you

Re: Visiting Dubai in april - need tips

hmmmm well, i would say golden sands are quite reasonable...they are self catering appartments...!! :) they have spinny's just accros the rd so u can get whatevr u need 24/7....

....just hire a taxi and do remember they work on meter and the start of 3 dirhams i think and they will charge you minimum of 10 dirham kuz thats how the taxi companies dere work....

...and to roam around dere is loadzzzzz
-dubai mall-which i like better
-malls of emirates- its cool
-al-fahidi fort...ticket is few dirhams and it kinda gives you good history of dubai....!! its kinda cute
-deira-like a crappy bazar...men stare so i wud personally dun even bother going dere next time
-creek...a few dihams again....it will take you acros the water from bur dubai to deira and vice versa etc....!! nice little ride...:)
-beach offcourse...!! :)

thats about it what i know...kuz i only spent 2-3 days there :( but would love to go again....hope you guys have a safe journey...:)

Re: Visiting Dubai in april - need tips

With 3 kids beter get a hotel apartment, like Kempinski's, Khalidiya or Aldeyafa.

Rent a car is cheap but if you havent been in dubai, roads can be confusing, if you do rent a car, get a driver as well, is also cheap by european standards.

And ofcourse dont forget to visit wild wadi

Dubai guppies, plase do help me here:

Which locatation is best to get a hotel/apartment?
I found xclusive apartment via booking.com , its near burjuman and i also found Suha hotelapartments (a bit expensive) near marina walk and Arjaan Rotana near media city? So what location is best when your travelling with kids?

I need still advise if i should rent a car or not?

Which touroperator (for safari, dhow, anythign else which i dont know about??) do you guys recommend?

Yes wild wadi is must :). What about the one in Atlantis? Should we visit that one as well, or wild wadi waterpart is enough??

i think your best bet is atlantis because you can really make a day of it. Theres the lost chambers which is like an underwater tunnel as well, and yyou got the dolphin bay. how old are the kids?
I suppose wild wadi is good. you could always go when you make a trip to the beach as it's close.

other things.....
like everyones mentioned, you have the malls:
Dubai mall - ice skatin, aquarium, cinema etc
Mall of emirates - ski dubai (probs not ideal with kids)

Desert safari are great - I went with orient tours the first time second time i arranged my own. the only other group i know is arabian adventures.

Theres nothing for the kids at dubai marina i dont think but i found the atmosphere great there. some nice food places.

apartment wise, i havent a clue but if i was recommending a hotel it would madinat jumeirah - FLAWLESS!!!

Awwwwwww how i miss dubai!!!!!

Since there’s hardly anything in Dubai that is walking distance from anywhere, I would suggest you stay somewhere close to the Trade Center area. It’s not as congested as Bur Dubai and Deira, but is not too far away from it either.

DUBAI INTERNATIONAL HOTEL APARTMENTS looks good location-wise, but of course I don’t know whether it’s any good as a place to stay. Maybe someone else who has stayed there can shed some light on it

Since you’ve never been to Dubai before and never driven on the roads here, I would advise you NOT to rent a car. You’ll be much better off with taxis. They are much cheaper than in Europe and you won’t get lost on the confusing roads of Dubai. The Dubai Metro is currently more a tourist attraction than a real means of transport, as it only covers a limited number of areas in Dubai.

I’ve always booked my Desert Safaris with FSN Travel & Tour L.L.C. On one occasion they were a bit late in picking us up. But other than that it has been a nice experience every time. And they are reasonably priced as well.

I’ve never been to the one in Atlantis, but Wild Wadi is definitely a nice place to go to.

Thanks to all of you taking time and replying to my post.

I have choice between two good 4 star hotels, both have 25% off in april.

1) Burjuman Arjaan by Rotana, near the Burjuman mall and the other is
2) Four points Sheraton Sheikh Zayed road

As i said i dont know about the location, so which one is good located for us?

Re: Visiting Dubai in april - need tips

Go with Burjuman Arjaan because it is excellent and much better than four point sheraton and it is near burjuman and you can catch the metro from there to different areas of dubai that u wanna see. Cheaper than taxi.

Dubaiwali, Thanks for the tip.... really appriciated

I heard its a metro near four points sheikh zayed road. is it correct?

Re: Visiting Dubai in april - need tips

There is a Metro station on Sheikh Zayed Road but it is not near Four Point Sheraton as in near near. It is in the proximity. Burjuman is better because not only the Burjuman mall but you have many other shops/malls/streets/souks to look through/browse around.

Re: Visiting Dubai in april - need tips

you also have Ibrahimi resturaunt anf nirala sweets near burjaman

I'd say get a hotel.. it's more 'kids friendly'. And move around by cabs.

The Dubai Mall
Atlantis
Burj Al-Arab
Al -Qasr
Madinat Jumeira
Souk Al-Bahar
Bastikiya Village
Spice souk
Raffles/Wafi city

Aquaventure at the Atlantis is a lot better than Wild Wadi, I've always used Arabian Adventures for all the moonlight cruises/dhow cruises and desert safari's.

There's a nice Indian rest at Sheraton four points, dinner and entertainment. Al-Muna rest in Madinat Jumeira has nice Arabic food

I am confused about choosing hotel:

Arjaan Burjuman? Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road?? which one???

Another question; is it easy to get a taxi from the airport upon arrival at 2 am, waiting time etc ? Should i book privat transfer cause i am travelling with kids or taxi is okay?

Re: Visiting Dubai in april - need tips

Darling it depends on your budget. Lots of hotels around. From Sheraton and Burjuman I would say go with Burjuman.

The airport is the one place in Dubai where you will never have issues getting a taxi, regardless of what time you are arriving. In fact, at 2 AM it's gonna be easier because there are not a lot of flights at that time. When you arrive at a busy time you might have to cue for cabs, but even that has never taken me longer than 10 minutes.

However if your hotel offers complimentary pick and drop service, which many hotels do, I'd take that.
