AA Everybody,
my first time posting on the travel forum ![]()
I could really do with some advise guys, I’d like to visit Pakistan with my 2 daughters in April. We are all British Nationals (born and bred in the uk) but via my father I have a valid NICOP card.
My question is, would it be possible to apply for NICOPs for my daughters to avoid paying the visa fee or do I take a deep breath and cough up the £240 visa fee?
I have spent the best part of this morning trying to get through to our local consulate office here in Birmingham but nobody is picking up the phone. My apologies if this question has already been asked but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Re: Visa/NICOP from UK to Pak Query
WS,
The fact that you have a NICOP card rather than a POC card means, that technically you are a dual-citizen. That is true even if you don't hold a Pakistani passport on top of your British one.
The main difference is: A NICOP is issued to Pakistani citizens (including dual-citizens) living abroad and is valid for 10 years. Whereas a POC (Pakistan Origin Card) is only valid for 7 years and is issued to people who do not hold Pakistani citizenship, but are of Pakistani Origin. In my case I have a POC because my Dad is a Pakistani citizen.
I'm not 100% certain on the laws in the UK pertaining to dual-citizenship. But I would assume that your children are also dual-citizens based on your own dual-citzenship. And that would entitle them to NICOP cards as well. If however they are not Pakistani citizens from a legal perspective, you would still be able to get POC for them. The latter are more expensive though so you would only save money on the visas if you travel to Pakistan at least twice within a 7-year timespan.
Thank you so much for your response Umer. I really was getting so confused about the nicop, nadra and the other one! I tried all day to get through to the consulate and failed miserably. I'm going to try and get my daughters a nicop card by physically visiting the offices on friday.
Re: Visa/NICOP from UK to Pak Query
I did not realise a visa for a child was so expensive? £240? How does one go about getting a NICOP card for a child - can it be done asap? let me know how you got on brummie bird. What do you need for a NICOP card for a child?
Re: Visa/NICOP from UK to Pak Query
AA Himalaya, the visa cost is roughly £120 per child as I have 2 children We'd be paying £240. I've been told it takes upto 6 weeks for the NICOP card but it could take longer. For our trip this year I'm just going to cough up the visa money and sort out NICOPs later.
