As far as I know the only solutions available on Android are through 3rd party apps like Square, which require hardware. RIM getting approval for something like this is huge, and if I’m going to be using my phone for financial transactions I’d rather use a secure platform like BlackBerry’s rather than an open platform like Android.
With this, and other features like splitting work and personal profiles on your phone, hopefully RIM can get back in the race.

Well I interned at RIM during university and they had legal issues with some governments in the Middle East and Asia who wanted to access consumer information. While Android and Apple are far better at the moment, RIM is the clear winner in terms of security.
