My laptop is all full of virus to a pint it takes forever to open a window. It has just one partition where windows and all other data is stored. The volume is huge, this time i wanted to transfer all of it to a flash drive, i waited for like 9 hours and hardly 10 percent was done. Is there a way i can preserve all the data and install new windows?

you were trying to backup the whole volume ?
or just your important files/documents ?

how old is laptop / pc? I want to estimate is it has usb 1.1 or 2.0

the other way around is doing it through safe mode

what os u have?

the final thing to ask or to say is that u should install an antivirus after u install windows n before moving data back from stick to laptop.. so that is any copied data from ur backup is infected with virus may get cleaned..

Laptop is old. In fact its there just because of the data:( OS is XP. How to go for safe mode and what good will it do?

When you boot in Safe Mode, the OS loads with only the drivers and services that are necessary to boot itself up. The advantage is that you’ll have a lot more memory and processing power available in Safe Mode to copy your files to the flash drive.
To boot in Safe Mode, restart your laptop and keep pressing F8 until you get to the advanced startup options menu, and choose Safe Mode
once your OS has loaded in Safe Mode, try copying your files again, it should be a lot faster

^^ I hope so it has worked for you but if you have USB 1.1 then it might have improved a bit because USB 1.1 is very slow than USB 2.0 and no you cant increase the timing yourself.

Although I hope you have achieved what you were looking for.

I don’t think that you have enough technical skills to format your hard drive and install windows . I’ll strongly suggest that take it to some techie who can help you out with this . I am afraid that you might end up loosing all your important data .
