Yes. I agree that this movie might have resemblance to Godfather, but this is a story based on the actual incident happening in Vijayawada, the native city on coastal andhra Pradesh of Ram gopal verma. During the late 1980’s there was a big don named “Mohan Ranga” who was killed by his enemies. That inspired Verma to come out with Gayam, where the role of abhishek is played by Jagapathi Babu.
Obviously, if Ram Gopal Verma tells that he is inspired or picked from Mohan Ranga’s life - people will not even care about this movie, if he quotes ‘God Father’, then obviously everyone will sit up and watch.
Ofcourse, I agree that bringing Amitabh into the movie has made him the central character and spun the story around this main pillar. Sarkar is not a scene to scene remake of Gayam, but has picked up many scenes from Gayam. The role of Katrina is played by Revathi - a famous Tamil actress, the role of Kajol’s sis is played by Urmila Matondkar. The negative roles of Kota Srinivasarao (Selva Mani- Tamil Don) and Swamiji are played by the same actors in the telugu version also.
