Not a new idea for the Under-grad / Grad students .. but for kids from K-12 .. the idea is picking up in USA. Parents are finding this a good balance between home schooling/private teaching and sending kids to actual schools. K
like Washington Virtual Academy www.wava.org in our State. It’s a public school, so there’s no charge. Anyone in kindergarten through eighth grade anywhere in the state can attend, if they have access to a computer. Good thing is that parents are suppose to help and be involved, kids are encouraged to come to school once a week to meet the teachers and fellow students.
Would you prefer it if available in your community?
I know 3 families who's kids are enrolled in WAVA. It's a great program but their kids are home all day and for higher grades, they've had to hire tutors as parents aren't always qualified to teach a child all the subjects, or aren't able to create the discipline. But for kids who may not live in a good school district or are concerned about public school issues, it may be a good option.
I don't like the idea. A big part of schooling is the socializing aspect. It's not all about academic learning, social development is very important. Studies have shown that kids who socialize with other kids from an early age are more confident and out going than ones who don't. I think it's a good option to have 1-2 days a week so parents can spend more time with their children but other than that, I dunno.
It would be hard to get the kids to listen to the parent after a certain age and to follow a routine at home. Very important to compete in a healthy environment.
