Virginia's not so new fines...

well the news was heard two weeks ago, the state of VA tagged on some ‘civil remedial fees’ to fines for traffic offenses, speeding tickets, DUI, expired licenses etc. For example someone driving 20m/hr over the posted limit, which is wreckless driving by the way, would face not only a fine of up to $2,500 plus a year in jail, but a non-negotiable $350-a-year tax for three years, thats a grand total of $3550.00!

This morning I recevied a petition opposing the new bill and insane fees based on various reasons. I do think its a great way to keep driver’s in check BUT at the same time its quite unfair.

Anyhow here is the petition for those of my fellows VA-ians wish to repeal the new bill.

Re: Virginia’s not so new fines…

these fines are crazy!!

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

hey thats a hell lot
BTW, which place is it VA?

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

Femme, saadi khanum...these emails have been doing the rounds and everything is a hoax - the fines and the lawsuit both. Jaao aur chaat khaao.

Re: Virginia’s not so new fines…

well the news about the insane fines was up on msn so I doubt its a hoax. what lawsuit? its a petition :hoonh:

Re: Virginia’s not so new fines…

Excuse me for my selective reading of the title of this thread

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

I am more than willing to pay fines of whatever amount if I am going above speed limit, if at the same time the state is willing to pay me fines when I can not drive the speed limit to piss poor traffic planning.

what do they expect, if the speed limit is 55 but ist stop and gpo traffic moving at barely 15-20 mph..that when it clears up people will stick to driving 55?

So, I am all for it, bring on the fines, as long as teh state is also willing to give me some decent service levels. traffic delays due to massive traffic accident I can understand, but just because its rush hour...that is just poor planning on teh planners part

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

Every state should just adopt the "safe driving conditions" that some of the Northwestern states have.

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

^ What some of those additional conditions may be?

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

You can drive 150 mph as long as you're not weaving around traffic basically.

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

damn bro..what states? I hafta make a road trip there

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

hmmmm....thats breaking the LAW...is it not, mr F?

Not only is it breaking the LAW...its DANGEROUS. If you happen to read the stats on accidents in cars as opposed to any other type of travel, well you get the picture. SPEED LIMITS are established for a reason!!! Speeding, selfish, road-hog sob types KILL PEOPLE.

As you've stated in no uncertain terms previously, Mr F....paying fines is one thing...breaking the law is QUITE another. Especially when peoples lives are at stake.

A Madhur-choud driver, impatient to get going, changed lanes and floored his vehicle and did indeed get his ass around the traffic, cut off a mini-van carrying a family of 5, a metal coffee cup bounced out of its holder and wedged itself under the brake and they all DIED. This is a family I knew, completely destroyed.

Yeah, you can call my mother a selfish SOB for using the handicapped spot for 90 seconds to ensure the safety of her dying husband yet you think its ok and actually COOL to drive like a maniac.

so who's the selfish sob here???

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

What a gay state. They should be ostracized from statehood for coming up with such stupid laws. The reason behind this is not safety concern for people, but to find new ways to rip people off. Virginians should call thier state reps to demand removal of this bill and also remind them of upcoming elections when they will need their support to stay in their seat.

Re: Virginia’s not so new fines…

the difference here is that I am joking

No change since the last time we spoke :halo:
anyways if I am a selfish SOB in some situation, I will accept it and say I was a selfish SOB rather than give justifications

PS: I am not joking about the state being liable to pay fines to people if it can not meet some minimum SLAs. highways should be highways, not big parking lots

Re: Virginia’s not so new fines…

aha.

Re: Virginia's not so new fines...

take one me?

We're talking away
I don't know what
I'm to say I'll say it anyway
Today's another day to find you
Shying away
I'll be coming for your love, OK?
Take on me, take me on
I'll be gone
In a day or two
So needless to say
I'm odds and ends
But that's me stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is OK.
Say after me
It's no better to be safe than sorry
Take on me, take me on
I'll be gone
In a day or two
Oh the things that you say
Is it live or
Just to play my worries away
You're all the things I've got to remember
You're shying away
I'll be coming for you anyway
Take on me, take me on
I'll be gone
In a day or two
