Welcome to England.

The plan to raise fees will apply to students in England. Welsh students will not pay the higher rate of fees, even at universities in England.
In Scotland there are no tuition fees - and Northern Ireland has still to decide how it will respond to any fee rise in England.

Times like these, I wouldn't mind being welsh ORR scottish!
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
wow they are tripling the tuition?! People here are going crazy because there is a 11% increase in tuition
But you guys used to pay 3290 pounds for a year, lucky! That's around $5000 here, that was really good.
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
If I was still a student I would gladly be in the scrum…
As it is I can only give them my sympathies… the education these days is not worth the paper the certificates are printed on… ![]()
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
I'll spare you all the political ranting, suffice to say the level of increase is plain outrageous.
The violence is unfortunate, I am glad though that students actually protested.
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
^Agree..
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
Shame about the violence. It took away from the meaning of the protest. Like how does attacking Prince Charles' car or trying to pull down the flag on the Cenotaph relate to tutition fees.
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
Hahahah Charlie Gilmour ftw! ![]()
Ok ok sorry ![]()
Anyhu, it seems like all the protesting we did wasn’t even worth it considering the hype is now just surrounding how Charles and his Horse…err wife managed to get caught up in it
Enquiries are being done over all that, howsabout someone enquire what the hell Clegg is playing at? :halo:
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
Just a bunch of thuggish students if you ask me, i dont see the big deal. Most of your student loan money will pay off the tuition fee and you only have to pay it back once you start working. maybe they should spend less money on beer
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
i actually feel sorry for nick clegg. he's getting all the flak. thing is he's now part of a coalition and lets face it, all the big decisions are being made by david cameron and his cronies. what can clegg in all seriousness do? did he know prior to the election that he'd end up being cameron's lackey? the promise he made could only really have been fulfilled if the lib dems had won the election, so to all those protesting, why didnt you vote lib dem!?
and why arent people blaming david cameron? the smug git has gotten away with it!
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
^ No Nick Clegg knew this will happen. Increasing the tuition fee is not a new issue, it was debated to lengths before election. Conservatives made it pretty clear before elections and during coalition talks that they will not backoff. Vince Cable knew before taking charge as business secretay that one day HE will have to draft this proposal. The coalition agreement gave lib dema right to abstain during voting and they didn't.

Considering the outrageous fees that international students have to pay, it’s time for the locals to feel our pain ![]()

what i meant was that did nick clegg know he would end up in a coalition? no obviously he didnt, and so the promises he made are now pretty much invalid
Re: Violent protests - England students to face rise in tuition fees.
^ He got to make a choice, he made his bed now he can lie in it.
From what I can see, this coalition government isn't going to last very long at all.

No, but on 7th of May he knew he will end-up in coalition (either with Labour or Conservatives). Look at all major policies, why it's only Lib-Dem's compromising on their pre-election policies? Tories didn't win an overall majority and they are in coalition too. If we go with notion that since Nick Clegg is in coalition, hence he had to give up on his policies, well-- the same is true for "call me Dave".
