You mean Germany and Japan where there are STILL American forces after 50+ years? Germany and Japan, 2 of the most successful democracies and economies in the world?
When the US leaves (which I hope they do, trust me), there will be a vaccuum filled with blood and violence that makes today look like utopia. So we'll see about "freedom and self governance" when occupying troops leave. Violence today is more toward fellow Iraqis than US troops. Will that magically stop when US pulls out?
