Not sure if this is true but as per one viewer’s comment “the method used worked out the average speed over 22 yards and not just from the hand like the modern method. As a result the speeds given are lower than they would have been today”

For the record there were 12 bowlers in all. Jeff Thomson (fastest 147.9kph; ave 142.0 kph), Michael Holding (fastest 141.3, ave 135.3) and Imran Khan (fastest 139.7, ave 138.3) were the three quickest. Sarfraz came last.

^ Thanks. did not realise it earlier...It's worth watching. That really was the golden age of fast bowling. It's worth noting that Imran's average speed was quicker than Holding i.e. he had greater stamina than Holding
