Anyone use an expansion port / docking station for their notebooks with video over USB?

I’m considering this product:

but I don’t want the video quality to be too negatively affected.

All notebooks have PC Video out connectors to connect to external displays. I am pretty sure video over USB will be a processor intensive solution and will drag down the machine.

Is there a special reason to go for such a device?

I'm trying to get a docking station with VGA capabilities - and this is the only one I could find.

Just wanted to post an update

The product actually works pretty well with my laptop! its just that on my tablet, it conflicts with my touchscreen and disables it - so until I find a fix for this, I can't use it with the tablet.
