Video Card Recommendation

My 30 month old Geforce4 Ti 4200 128MB seems to abruptly have stopped working with Direct3D, so it’s time to upgrade. I’ve repeatedly reformatted my hardrive and experimetned with different combinations of motherboard drivers / graphics drivers to no avail.

I can buy either a Geforce4 Fx 5500, a Geforce4 Fx 5200, or an Ati Radeon 9250.

All 3 have 256MB memory on board and DVI outs.

I’ve been out of the graphics cars scene for over 2 years, so tell me which of these is best and I’ll bend over for you … umm.. not really

Just tell me anyway please…

Re: Video Card Recommendation

Ok, the Radeon 9800 SE is in the competition as well. It's now the leading choice too...

Re: Video Card Recommendation

Nvidia Quadro FX ... blah blah

Re: Video Card Recommendation

or check http://www.slizone.com … Nvidia Geforce 4 SLI …

— ATI Radeon … is good but mobile version

Re: Video Card Recommendation

X800 just get that and all your problems are solved even though it is kind of expensive

Re: Video Card Recommendation

I can't believe people recommend video cards without asking what the intended use is. The video card prices range from 30$-$600+

Re: Video Card Recommendation

I need a gaming video card, DirectX 9 support, of marginally greater power than a Gefore Ti4200 128MB.

And I found the ideal one in my budget. Canadian $200 , Ati Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB

Re: Video Card Recommendation

Maddy, How about a 9800 Pro 256 for US $ 200? Its an OEM. I'd have to double check on that.

Re: Video Card Recommendation

If you want something not toooo expensive, try the Radeon 9800 pro or 6600GT by Nvidia
With new games the 6600 GT outruns the 9800 :)

Re: Video Card Recommendation

the 9800 and 6600 are out of my budget.

At any rate, I bought the 9600Pro 256 MB. Also, given that my PC has an obsolete motherboard and 1Gb of 133Mhz SDRAM, I also bought a brand new motherboard with 8x AGP support to match the video card, and 512MB of 400MHz DDR Ram.

Is there anyone in the Greater Toronto Area willing to swap 1GB of 133Mhz SDRAM for 7 days supply of biryani?

Re: Video Card Recommendation

I think I got it just in the nick of time. My Geforce4 must be dying, even 2d regular windows graphics are getting corrupted periodically. Can't wait to rebuild my pc on the weekend inshallah!
