Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

kallis, lara and pietersen… :nook:

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

yeah, quite a dissapointing performance overall. ud think the world XI would really hammer a domestic side such as victoria

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

its their first game together....
u really need them to play more practice games before they can all really be one "team"....

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

World XI won by 12 runs. A narrow in. Shoaib akhtar was star performeer with 2-29 in 10 overs. Afridi was expensive as he was belted for 18 runs in 2 overs and I can see Pollock and Wright dropping him for first one dayer.

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

Excellent spell by Akhtar. He was notch above other bowlers.

Dravid, Pollock and Shoaib star in narrow win](http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/superseries/content/story/220686.html)

Rahul Dravid led the way with a superb 66 and Shaun Pollock, given the honour of captaining the side, chipped in with a terrific 38-ball 54 as the World XI held off a determined challenge from Victoria to post a narrow 12-run victory in a warm-up match at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.

Brad Hodge top-scored with 92, and Michael Klinger chipped in with 62 as Victoria made a bright start in pursuit of 282 for victory. But with the exception of David Hussey, who made 32, none of the other batsmen could make a decisive contribution as the chase floundered. Muttiah Muralitharan ended Hodge’s marvellous innings on his way to figures of 2 for 54, and there were two wickets apiece for Shoaib Akhtar - the pick of the bowlers, in a fiery spell of 2 for 29 - and Jacques Kallis as the World Xi staved off embarrassment.

That had certainly been on the cards when Cameron White, seen by many as Shane Warne’s legspin successor for Australia, bowled Shahid Afridi to end an 18-run cameo, leaving the World XI reeling at 131 for 6. But Dravid added 64 with Chris Gayle and 53 with Pollock as the Victorian bowling was taken apart in the final overs.

There was no hint of the drama to come as Virender Sehwag and Kumar Sangakkara added 63 for the first wicket. But a probing spell from Shane Harwood changed the complexion of the game, with Brian Lara - caught flicking one to square leg - and Kevin Pietersen, caught behind going for a big one, both falling cheaply.

Dravid and Gayle started the riposte, taking the total into the realms of respectability before Rudi Koertzen gave Gayle out stumped off the bowling of White. Fortunately for the world’s finest, Pollock provided a devastating sting in the tail. After that, it was the bowlers who proved their mettle, despite Hodge’s announcement of intent to the Australian selectors.

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

I think shohaib is getting in form .... his spell seems to be a excellent one when you see all other bowlers are hammered, even thou i am not sure about the quality of the opposition batting .....

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

good to c shoaib in form :k:

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

Way to go shoaib. Nice start.
He has to be spot on in every match otherwise the anti shoaib clan will be ready to bash him. They have got very high expectations from shoaib and they believe that shoaib has to and he can perform in evey match.

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

It doesn't matter how great the individual players are, as a team they will find it very difficult to perform against any team let alone Australia. In the ODI's it might be a close contest but in test matches I don't see this World XI team challenging Australia.

You need to have a teamwork ethic and special bond as a team to perform well as a team. Putting togeather star individuals in just matter of day to face the best team in the world will be very difficult.

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

also, this series isn't really gonna have that team dynamics. its gonna be more like a friendly. even so, it should be good entertainment

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

I feel that in ODI’s they will be troubled by aussies .. but in tests XI will prove to be better team.

Re: Victoria v ICC World XI

I dont agree my friend. It has been a highly highly publicize series. Its not a charity tournament. As far as aussies are concerned, I dont need to say that they cant afford to take it lightly at all after the Ashes loss. So many players have to prove a point. Otherwise they will get the treatment which martyn and gilliespi got. As far as ROW are concerned, they have to prove that their selection was not biased since there already has been enough controversy about their squad such as inzimam issue, selection of so many south african players and specially appointment of smith as the captain. PCB will be looking at akhtar’s performance. English players would like to face auusies once again. All this will highly motivate ROW players to give their best.
