Victims of caste system in Punjab

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

All sikh gurus were Khatri but later all of the leadership from Ranjit singh to present CM went to Jatts, so I think both are equal in our case. Syeds, not strictly, are equal to brahmins, but difference is Brahmin is much broader group, while syeds are just one lineage :)

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

what is the lineage of Brahmins? Were they not come into being from some body part of the Brahma?

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

I dont like this caste system at all.......Its hurting Pakistan since ages now

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

They are decendent of many rishis, and their gothram signifies their knowledge, like Vishwamitra, kashyap, vashistha, bhardwaj etc, they don't marry within their gotra, similar is the case of jat/jatts. Syeds are decedents of daughter of prophet(pbuh).

Curse of converts, they carried it from hinduism to Islam :), won't go easily because in this part of world, sense of superiority doesn't come from doing something good but by demeaning others :D

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

Its not curse of converts that carried it to Islam. It was part and parcel of Arab's tribal society. Banu Hashim and Banu Ummayad rivalry created many disasters in early days of Islam.

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

The other day I was watching city 42 (Lahore based local news channel). The newsman was akmal soomro. When I heard the name a bell rang, he had a punjabi accent.

soomro city 42 - Google Search

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

But majority of muslim caste structure seems to be inspired by hindu classification here in the sub-continent or may be it is extension of tribal character of Arabs. But muslims were aliens to hindus, so when they reached india, Upper castes placed them lowest according to hindu classification, from their originated, Hindu pani-muslim pani :D

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

Soomro with Punjabi accent. interesting. Soomro’s are basically Rajputs

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

And rajputs are punjabis too

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

was this Hindu pani - Muslim pani like concepts came into being after Muslim arrival or it was already there for lower castes?

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

Go through YouTube videos given in the link.

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

yes.. Many castes in Punjab link themselves with Rajputs

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

They are in UP, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, everywhere in India, though Haryana-Rajasthan variety is considered the best one, UP waale Rajputs are called Thakurs

Yes Hindu society was always ghettoised, brahmin mohalla, Baniya mohalla, thakurs, Dalits, so when muslim appeared, their was another mohalla, called muslim mohalla with its own well, and muslims became something like Backward castes but better than Dalits

And Jatts, muslims also has titles like gill, sandhu etc

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

just for my knowledge, what is literary meaning of 'Maleech'. Is it a sanskrit word?

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

Ranjit Singh was a jatt?

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

I started reading the book of Ahmed hasan dani. As I suspected the people of Indus Valley civilisation were melluca's (mleechas).

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

Maleccha, means someone who does the dirty work of cleaning, and it is sanskrit word

Reminds me of Sir VS Naipaul

The road were unclean because of sunday sweeper (belonging to certain caste) haven't come, because in India, it is unclean to clean, it is unclean even to look at it
From, India a wounded civlization

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

maleech / Maila transformed to Burgers :cb:

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

Yes he was Jatt, After Gurus, all martial leadership went to Jatts, but majority of Indian army top generals have been mostly Khatris, including the present chief of staff :)

Re: Victims of caste system in Punjab

but in Pakistan, now there are fights to get job of sweeper. A matter of inheritance
