What is the reason for caste system being so entrenched in Punjab as opposed to the other regions? One would think that after all the invasions and settlements that went on in the region, they would be a more open and relaxed society. What I mean is there should not be any cultural stagnation,

In other areas (like kpk and balochistan) the tribes live in their own specific areas (wazirs, afridis, khattaks, bugtis and marris). In Punjab (and Sindh) there are mix populations. In the same town you will find jatts, Rajputs, arains, syeds, sheikhs etc. maybe that’s why the people tried to keep their tribal identity alive. Even now the family (identity) is the most important.
