I think there's a difference between always seeing yourself as a victim and being insecure about yourself. They are surely related, but I do know plenty of people (women and men) who are constantly blaming their problems on the fact that others are disrespecting, oppressing, confining, attacking, etc them.
The need for reassurance about physical features is different.
