Vertigo....

“Vertigo, sensation of spinning around or of seeing nearby objects revolve. Vertigo tends to be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, headache, or sweating.”

Both of my parents have experienced this condition..recently my mom.Initially we thought it was a heart attack cause it just happened so suddenly.

Well it was a worried sick time for us..but she’s fine now.Now is there anyway to prevent this from happening again? Any one else suffered from it who would like to share their experiences?

I had sufferred severe vertigo about 2 and half years ago. It was the worse thing I ever experienced in my life. It started from a blocked left ear, and lead to the attacks. Upon attack, everything was spinning and I was suffering severe and constant vomiting. I couldn't open my eyes or even sit up, let alone stand up. I had to remain lying down with my eyes closed. The attacks came suddenly without warning, and sustained for about an hour. I had about 2 or 3 attacks that weekend. The vertigo never returned and hopefully never will. Doctors couldn't really diagnose the problem. One said it was a result of an ear infection and therefore I lost balance due to fluid buildup in my inner ear, but another doctor stated I had no ear infection. So I let it go, and it never returned, thank God.

My mother went through this about 2 years ago. For her, something went off balance in her ear which caused her entire body to go haywire! She started having major dizzy spells, vomitting and when she would walk, the floor would be uneven .... she kept losing her balance. The doctor said that this was common when women reached their late 40s. There was no remedy. He said the ear would have to rectify itself from inside and then things would go back to normal. She was like this for about 3 weeks.

My mom had the same problem with vertigo. It started happening when she reached age of 50. Happens once atlesat every 2 years, same symptoms as people mention above, where everything starts spinning and you cant stand still. It happens to due a crystal which gets unbalanced inside your ear at this age usually in women and some men. There is no cure for it as yet, But when someone does go through a vertigo attack then immediate ENT (ear nose throat doctor) attention is required, and they make you do special exercise with your head to balance that crystal back to its normal place. You will be lucky if you come across a ENT with this knowledge available to you at hospital when one does have this attack. The ENT suggested, that lack of vitamins C and other minerals can also cause this to happen.

May god help us all and bless us all with good health. Ameen

Fret:Yeah..it truly is a horrible experience...at one stage my mom felt as if tht was it..her life was over.Taking her to the bathroom was another issue altogether.Whenever she moved her head, she just started vomiting. It was actually the first time i saw my mom cry because of pain.:(

Mehnazq:My mom is in her mid-forties so i guess it does make here a contender for vertigo....but hers didn't last 3 weeks!....damn thts long.My mother's lasted roughly three days partly because we called the doctor home and he prescribed some medicines.

Furqan:Thanks alot for tht useful info abt the crystal..I didn't know tht and neither did the doctor mention it.I don't think we have ENT's here...although i will check it out.

I always thought Vertigo was when a person had a fear of heights? Or am I thinking of something else??

Screw the roller coaster, I'm getting a blocked ear. ;)

Seriously, I hope nobody suffers from it, it is horrible.
