I got FIOS installed at my house last Friday.
Im getting close to 4 mbps when I connect the PC and router through cable, but only around 1mbps through a wireless connection.
Is there any setting I need to change to get better speed with wireless?

About the wireless speed, either your wireless router or wifi card OR both are outdated. Are you talking about the speed that you see on the taskbar (by the clock) or you are reading the speeds from online bandwidth tests?

Yeah I got the lowest priced package with 5mb download & 2 mb upload. I heard thye will automatically upgrade this service to 10mb in couple of months so I did't want to pay extra for 15 mb.
Anyways, the router came with the package so it is new. The laptop is brand new as well and with good specs.
I'm testing the speed at toast.net and CNET bandwidth test. Both sites produce similar results.

hmmm... i guess you can call verizon and report this, although if u r getting 4mbps with a direct connection, its decent enough for them to declare that everything is normal. Try resetting the router or upgrading the firmware... i m not very hopeful though.

If he's getting 4 mbps its got nothing to do with Verizon. With the wifi, try and see if you can "borrow" another AP and maybe another wifi card and see if that makes a difference. Play around with the settings, as in try hard-coding settings instead of leaving things on AUTO, like duplex settings or using B vs G etc.

I got mine installed last year and I have been very happy with the service. I get 5mbps on the main computer. I have decent enough connection speed from other computers around the house connected wireless (another pc in a different room and a laptop). The wireless connection is decent enough that I have never bothered to check the speed. I can do that when I get home tonight and post back.

Does FIOS uses phone line for the connection or it's similar to cable internet where a new wire come to your house from a hub?

wait a minute. you're getting only 1mbps on wireless? that has nothing to do with the speed of your internet connection....your wireless speed is only between your laptop card and your router. If you're getting only 1 mbps likely you are not connecting to your router but your neigbors (or you have the router/card settings hopelessly wrong). just reset everything to default and make sure you haven't put the router inside a tin can
