Venues

Re: Venues

hahaha how about just saying "hi" and striking up a normal conversation rather than going straight for the "marry me" dialogue hehe

Yes I do. I know a few.

One of my good friends got married to a guy she met through going to the gym. She was running on the treadmill and he came to the one beside one and things slowly progressed from there.

My other friend is engaged to someone she met at a cafe. The guy asked her a question about what she was doing and things slowly just progessed.

I would tell you the full stories but I'm not allowed (sorry!) But from their experiences, what I can tell you is that it is about approaching someone and being yourself while doing so. It's important to just be yourself. Plus, I truly believe that when the time is right, things will fall into place with the right person.

That's just my input tho.
=-)

Re: Venues

these people were desis?

Re: Venues

Re: Venues

lol

Re: Venues

I think i asked u before in another thread or blog, im nto sure...but ever thought about moving to another city, such as NY or chicago etc, where the desi population is alot larger?

Re: Venues

BUt she hates desi men ..

wait a minute PCG, when you hate desi guys, why the heck do you want to marry them?

Re: Venues

TLK...

I want brown kids. And they need to smell like salan when they go to school. And people need to ask the girls why they have coconut oil in their hair. It is tradition.

Sara, I'm beginning to hear its just as bad in the big cities.

That's why I'm asking, do you think its a lack of good venues to meet people. Like apart from some cheesy religious speed dating events, are there any good healthy cultural organizations that are NOT focused on an e-harmony kind of model, and are rather active cultural organizations that ORGANIZE actual STUFF, in which you can meet up and make friends and work on projects, and just network professionally as well?

I know there is a south asian one. But its got hindus and muslims. I don't think we have one of those down here, and I don't know if its hindu dominated.

I'm wondering if there are similar events for Pakistanis.

Lol. Yes, these people were and are desis.

PCG instead of going into religious events attend concerts, basant parties, eid melas, chaand raats they have lot of students or bacholers .Even where I live these events happen so there must be events in your city too.

Re: Venues

Hmm...no, we haven't had a concert in a long time. We used to have a small chand raat mela around here - not sure if they do that anymore. I haven't been able to go unfortunately, because I was usually working those nights.

I'd rather go to a smaller gathering with NO aunts/uncles, just young people, so you can meet and greet and meet new people.

Every city should have a cultural association with youth group activities.

Re: Venues

PCG, organise something.

Send out a facebook invite or something... organise a desi bbq. Get people to bring some stuff... like do a BYO thing.. it'll be cool.

I feel like arranging one myself here as i want to people more desis in my community and the area ive moved to.

Do u have a beach or something near where u r? arrange a beach bbq or something. It'd be fun
