Venue Help-- Toronto

Hey Everyone,
I needed some help from the Torontonians in the forum! I’m looking for a venue for a wedding that holds around 300 to 400 people, but I don’t want the typical desi hall such as Woodbine, Chandani, Verdi, etc. I want something a bit unique and out of the ordinary than just a traditional desi hall. I don’t want anything too over the top either because that would mean an over the top price tag as well! I also need a hall that will allow outside catering. I don’t mind if it’s not directly in Toronto. Markham, Sauga, as well as anywhere way east (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby) is fine. Any ideas??

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

i've some great places for weddings in mind but they are outside GTA...if interested, lemme know! it's VERY different than DESI type of venues for weddings.

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

there is a similar thread like this.

use the SEARCH option.

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

I'm very interested!! I don't mind if its outside the GTA

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

I did, but to be honest I didn't find anything. All the same halls were mentioned and the different ones were way too small to accommodate 300-400 people

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

**i’ve attended weddings in those two places and i found them to be really nice and different. i hope u’ll like them. here are the links:

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

I wonder if the Liberty Grand would accommodate this many guests…

okay…just checked…it can handle up to 800 people.

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

Thank you guys for the suggestions. I'll look into them.

I also have another question. So when booking appointments for halls, can anyone suggest to me how much time to leave in between each hall appointment for the same day? I don't want to rush through looking at the hall, but I also don't want to waste time in between halls.

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

I was looking for different looking halls too, but once you get outta the desi halls zone, the prices hike up like crazy. The Mississauga Convention Centre itself charges a base fee of $18.00, this does NOT include food! If you want food, it's $60 and up! Which is a lot, considering you can get a very decent hall like Woodbine or Chandni for $25-35 per head. I haven't been able to find a decent "unique" hall for a good price. However, Paradise Banquet Hall offers a halal menu option for $45 per head or so.. It's a really nice hall too! But it's still pricey for me.. Good luck with the hunt! Wishing you well :)

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

You will probably need at least 1.5 to 2 hours per site depending on how many features you want to look into.
Plus allow for travel time from place to the next, of course....

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

Ajax convention centre is really nice!

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

Oh! Ajax convention centre does look nice! Thanks for the suggestion.

And thanks Muzna! I was having trouble with that.

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

^ Ajax has a hidden fee- I can’t remember what it was now, but it was quite significant when I was looking for my brothers valima venue, so make sure to verify that with them. Its a fee that you wouldn’t pay at other halls, like an administration cost or something.

Check these venues too- all very, very pretty. Le Jardin in Woodbridge- http://www.lejardin.com/, Embassy Grand in Brampton, The Terrace and West River Event Center also-- http://www.infinityeventgroup.ca

I’ve also heard good things about Paramout- http://www.bypeterandpauls.com/paramount/weddings.php

And there is One King West downtown which is beyond gorgeous-- Grand Banking Hall | One King West Hotel & Residence
If you can afford One King West and they have your date, don’t even look at other halls.

And Atlantis Pavilions is very nice too, but I’m not sure if they’d accommodate your number- might be worthwhile checking out though-- http://www.atlantispavilions.com/index.html

Oh, and the Royal York has some gorgeous event rooms and also a full desi menu (most of their chefs are desi and I believe the beef they buy is from a halal butcher too because its much healthier and cleaner than other butchers, even though they don’t advertise this. Double check this though- it was either the beef or the chicken that was halal.)

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

Halls you can see pretty quickly, but you'll probably need some time to sit down and discuss details with them and negotiate prices, etc. I would keep an hour for the actual appointment plus travel time for where you are. And be on time when you visit because they allocate a certain amount of time to each client too and they won't usually keep their next appointment waiting if you're late, which means your appointment time will be cut short.

Re: Venue Help-- Toronto

Check out Hart House and Victoria College...both part of University of Toronto. They are definately more affordable than other venues in downtown Toronto.
