As mentioned in the other thread I went to Italy last month to get the dose of civilization and sun. The trip was fantastic, Italy overall is great country, but this thread is about Venice.
My original plan for Venice was 2 night stay but due to an emergency administrative issue I had to miss my flight and lose 50 euro. Thankfully the hotel people were nice, and although the deadline for free reservation cancellation passed few days ago, they did not charge me when I told them about my situation.
So with all these issues, I had only one option left. Visit Venice for about 7 hours and continue with my rest of the plan unaltered since I had hotel and train bookings already done in other cities.
From Paris there is an overnight train that arrives in Venice around 9:30am. It’s name is Thello and leaves Paris Gare de Lyon at about 20:00 the previous day. I booked a ticket in a 4 berth compartment. Anyhow the train arrives in Milan around 5:45am and then continues towards Venice. It arrived on time (that’s a plus), during the journey the staff takes your passport and resident card/permit for Swiss and Italian border checkings. They will return them back when train stops in Milan. Between Paris and Milan there is only one stop (Dijon).
Finally I arrived at Santa Lucia train station in Venice at 9:30am and had about 7 hours to see Venice before catching my next train to Florence.
bahar bahar say hi sab dekha keh kuch buildings kay andar bhi gaye?
ok, another question, how much does it stink? i heard it stinks now.
also wow…venice is not how i imagined it to be. somehow the romantic-ness out of has gone. the first few pictures have a somewhat lahore-vibe to it…old lahore though.
Went to few churches to cool down as heat was too much Wanted to go inside San Marco church but there was huge line so dropped the idea.
No, its not bad, I think Naples has that reputation, Venice is crowded but definitely not stinky.
Ahan… romantic may for those who have romance in their life, so far my eyes lack that vision so can’t tell.. lol
The best time for peaceful and tranquil/romantic time is after sunset. This is when hoards of tourists leave and the whole area is much more serene. I would have loved to experience the night time after sunset but sadly couldn’t. I found Venice to be very safe and the best part is you cannot get lost in that city. You can explore it without any map/guide and always find something interesting.

I don't mean romance like romantic movie wala romance, more like...more like you have this image of Venice that's been fed to you through media, and your pictures show an entirely different point of view. I like it. I rather see the real stuff than the overly saturated, clean, no falling buildings view which no one really captures.
I’ve heard from people who visited Naples as being dirty and stinky. Not one person but many, but I haven’t visited it yet so can’t say it for sure. But then again its subjective thing in my view, people even find Paris appalling when they first visit it because of the image created by the media. But when they take RER trains to go to Versailles or Disneyland and see the conditions inside Châtelet Les Halles or Gare du Nord/Lyon stations… well their dreams are shattered.
