Venice, Italy

If you had three days to spend in Venice, what would you have on your must see/do list?

Go and see a concert at the Vivaldi Church just up from St Marco which is much cheaper and better than La Fenice Opera House.

Water taxis are really cheap (about the only thing that is but then they have to bring everything in by boat which might explain it) so it's easy to get about. Be prepared for a lot of walking and get a map.

The venetian glass factorys are interesting, and you can pick up some good bargains too.....some of their chandeliers are amazing.

It is practically compulsory to have a coffee or something at Florians and listen to the string orchestra.

And don't forget to go and see that mega famous Di Vinci sketch - can't remember the name, it's the body of a man in a circle - Uomo Vitruviano I think....... it's at the Galleria dell'Accademia.

That's all I can recall right now. Hope it helps.

muzna,

check out the fodors and lonely planet boards they have excellent suggestions for where to visit.

Take the 15 minute ferry to Lido. Rent bikes and roam around the little island. Mush less traffic than Venice.

Also, make sure you eat at an authentic Pizzeria.

And most important of all, don't worry if you get lost. You will get lost in Venice that's for sure. Just roam around and keep the Grand Canal as your beacon.

Two days should be enough for gondola rides , cruising thru the canals and the sites round it ( like St Marks Square - palace of the doges) et al..

but please spare a day to see the making of a Murano glass(sp?)...
most exquisite piece of artistry you can see..

Shahreen - are you sure Galleria Del Academia is in Venice...? one which houses the the naked statute of David is in Florence.

Bitter - is that not GDA then? I'm sure it is.

GOD! i want to visit VENICE ITALY!!!!
i'm in love with the place even though ive never been there...i think its one of the most romantic places on earth with so much culture and history. and italian food makes it even better.

Okay....it was absolutely beautiful.

One giant piece of incorrect advice: water taxis are cheap.
They most certainly are not!
Even the gondolas were ridiculously priced. The best mode of transportation was one foot in front of the other. Or the water buses....which you could just hop on and off with a day pass.

Will be back to write more about the place.....

Apologies Muzna, I had actually meant the water BUSES and not the taxis. Must've been having a blonde moment.
