Veggies - Frozen v Fresh?

What are some of the veggies you prefer as frozen over fresh. I do believe that frozen don’t have the same taste as fresh but there are some veggies that I always buy frozen. For example, chopped spinach, green beans, and green peas.

Are there any other vegetables that are better or at par with fresh?

Buy fresh tomatoes and freeze them…Take 'em out, put 'em in hot water and the skin’ll peel of like tight jeans on hot, humid day…:hehe:

Re: Veggies - Frozen v Fresh?

You can tell the difference among the frozen, fresh and canned veggies. Though I don't consider it much to let go of the convenience factor frozen & canned veggies provide.

The price difference is shrinking these days because of the pure veggies (i.e. organic) being marketed at the local grocery stores. I recently realized that buying the bell (green) pepper fresh is only a nickel cheaper than the already cut frozen ones.

I once tried making fresh palak. Spent an extra half hour and the end result was chewing on some chopped mud stones. I swear I thoughroly washed it but not enough I guess.

Speaking of canned veggies, I find Crushed Tomatoe cans way better than the paste. Crushed ones are almost like fresh. Paste has this sour taste to it.

Ya we buy frozen chopped spinach, chopped mustard, green beens, lama beens, geen peas, corn, & mix vegetables. Once we bought frozen okra but it didn't taste good at all. Fresh sqush, turnip, cauliflower, cabbage, okra, egg plant tastes a lot better then frozen.

Well instead of paste use puree, it is really good.

Re: Veggies - Frozen v Fresh?

i use frozen spinach ....whenever there's less time/willingness to go through the hassle of cutting n cleaning ....but i must admit ....it doesn't taste half as good as the fresh one!

i find those 'farmer's mix' frozen veggies quite convenient ...
its a mix of broccoli, carrots n sweet corn.....
all i have to do is ....steam 'em n then toss in a bit of olive oil, salt n pepper ....
my kids love it!

Re: Veggies - Frozen v Fresh?

Frozen Okra isn't bad but yes, egg plants are better fresh. And funguy, the minute my Mom leaves for Pakistan I am issuing an executive order banning fresh Spinach & it's kinds from my house.

Re: Veggies - Frozen v Fresh?

I prefer frozen okra over fresh. No cleaning cutting and if you thaw the frozen okra for 25 minutes and then fry it first before putting it in a masala the outcome is better. And if you put yogurt in the masala over the okra the slimy texture subsides.

Re: Veggies - Frozen v Fresh?

but you can't fill the frozen okra...

Re: Veggies - Frozen v Fresh?

^yeah that is true but what i meant was for cooking in masala. The filling recipe for okra definitely requires fresh.
