Toss Sri Lanka won the toss and will bat first
Scorecard
Sri Lanka will bat first against England in their crucial VB Series match after Sanath Jayasuriya won the toss at the SCG.

England are unchanged from the side which blew a winning position against Australia two days ago, which means they are still without Michael Vaughan. Sri Lanka bring in Charitha Buddika for Pulasthi Gunaratne.

The latest meeting between England and a resurgent Sri Lanka in the VB Series has been overshadowed by the news that Muttiah Muralitharan will be umpired by Darrell Hair for the first time since Hair called him seven times for throwing in the 1995-96 Melbourne Test.

Hair did not officiate on Sri Lanka’s last tour of Australia, in 1998-99, after being banned by the ACB for calling Murali’s action “diabolical” in his autobiography. In the aftermatch of the furore, Hair received a death threat
