[/QUOTE]

Zim needed 9 runs in the last over. Bangar bowling, Heath Streak on strike. He took one run, then a wicket fell. In the last 2 balls 7 runs were needed but no 4 was hit.

Changez- Laxman deserved to win this time. A much improved:D: SR and 2 fab catches.

shabash to vvs laxman for a career best knock of 131 from 138 balls, and his 3rd century of the vb series, the most inform player in the tournament so far :dhimpak:

nevertheless well played zim’ nearly beat india, nice encounter to watch..

Laxman is playing really well, impressive. More so when you consider he has'nt regulerly played in ODI's.
You gotta give Zimbabwe a lot of credit, I am not sure if it is more a testament on India's bowling or Zimbabwe's batting but 277 for 6 is a impressive score. Heath Streak has to be one of the most underrated cricketers in the world. This Ervine guy is'nt too shabby either considering his latest results.

i was shock that Heath Streak couldn't lift up his side when the crunch time came - the record stand between Stuart Carlisle and Sean Ervine ruined - disappoinment for Zimbabwe.

oh btw Ponting's Lee backing finally paid off. :D SIXER!

Poor Zimbabweans again fell short. They could have easily been 2 games up.

Zimbabwe falls short again in Tri-series loss to Australia](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/040126/323/ekdac.html)

ADELAIDE, Australia (AFP) - Zimbabwe once again failed to match it with world champions Australia, tumbling to a 13-run loss in their triangular international one-day cricket series match at the Adelaide Oval here.

A painfully slow start to the innings saw Zimbabwe chasing a total it never really looked like making. After 15 overs they stood at just 40 for one in reply to Australia’s 279 on Monday.

Opener Grant Flower gave stout resistance to earn man of the match honours with 94 runs from 106 balls. But he found little support from the top order, with Tatenda Taibu cleaned bowled for nine with the score on 29.

Travis Friend fared no better, the victim of a thunderbolt from paceman Brett Lee while on eight.

Stuart Carlisle then made just 15 before the middle order finally offered some resistance, with Sean Ervine making 33 and skipper Heath Streak 28.

The Australian pace attack of Lee, Brad Williams and Jason Gillespie kept Zimbabwe bottled up early on, with Lee in particular keeping them ducking and weaving.

By midway through the innings, Zimbabwe had crawled to 97 for three, needing well over seven per over for the last 25 overs.

The batsmen went after part-time left-arm spinner Michael Clarke in the middle stages, taking 42 runs from his first five overs.

All-rounder Ervine hit 33 from 33 balls and with Flower smashed 16 off Clarke’s fifth over, the 35th of the innings.

But spinner Brad Hogg broke their 69-run stand, easily the best of the innings, in the following over, having Ervine caught in the deep.

It was Gillespie who finally captured Flower’s wicket, having him caught behind to end Zimbabwe’s hopes.

But by the time Flower fell, Zimbabwe was 169 for five after 37 overs, still needing 111 from 13 overs at nearly nine per over.

It meant wickets fell regularly from then on as the lower order batsman tried to smash quick runs, with all-rounder Andrew Symonds picking up two late wickets to go with his quickfire 34 with the bat. In the end Zimbabwe capitulated for 266.

Earlier, Ricky Ponting belted a quick 63 and one-day specialist Michael Bevan compiled 75 to form the backbone of Australia’s total.

Ponting’s innings included 11 boundaries, and he had looked on target for a century before Blignaut brilliantly ran him out from midwicket.

But Damien Martyn, promoted to the opening position in a bid to revive his ailing form, again failed to fire.

Martyn was out for nine, his fourth score under 10 in six innings for the series, caught at gully off Streak’s bowling. He finished with 3-45 from 10 overs.

The loss meant Zimbabwe is without a win in the competition so far, while Australia has lost only once to India.

Zimbabwe had a close game against Aussies too? Ah!! makes me feel better now. I was really bummed out after that close game India won against Zimbabwe. But this goes to show.. it's not the Indian team losing it;s edge( which I initially thought).. It is the Zimbabwain team which has gotten better.

Zimbabwe - great game and sportsman ship did not give up till the end, the problem that Zimbabwe faced today was their first 20 overs where they were 48 runs behind Australia and even though opening was a bit better today yet the first 15 overs have to be used, as those overs are their to make the game interesting and challenging for both batsman and bowlers
I dont know who but I was watching Pak vs Sa which was in Pakistan and the comentrator said that Pak team needs to have confident openers cuz a true definition of an opener is, one who doesnot hesitate playing shots, so now if openers try to stick to their wicket and not play shots they are just wasting time and not living up to the expectationof a good confident opener

wow. Zimbabwe is putting up a good fight. They lost by just 4 runs against India, and now lost by just 13 runs against Australia.

Excellent batting by Zimbabwe! Keep it up, guys. You might win an ODI...

Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag are fit to play in India’s next VB Series one-day international, against Australia on February 1 at Perth. Tendulkar has missed three games due to an ankle injury, while Sehwag has had a shoulder strain. Andrew Leipus, the team’s physiotherpaist, said that both players have now recovered from their injuries.

Anil Kumble will not be back in action quite so soon, though. Kumble has a sore shoulder, and is expected to be rested for the next two matches, at Perth, so that he is fit to play in the best-of-three finals against Australia.
