Actually, they did invite a better team (PAK) in 2000. India lost all FOUR to Australia. In addition they lost 3 out of 4 against Pakistan too. Pakistan beat Australia once and got into the Finals.

And just to tell you earlier story.Once ACB invited all the TEST playing nation for a tournament and they called it Mini Worlcup and India defeated Pakistan in a one sided final to win it.
but that was a “norm” already, wasn’t it? ![]()
It better not be the norm this time. Let’s kick some nice dinki-di ass for a change. ![]()

close match well played lax and yuvraj quality stroke play and lax’ just gets better and better, he’s awesome, and its about time india’s odi specialist batsmen yuvraj singh delivered with the bat in the vb series, maybe they should test him in the tests arena 2!!!
and a big ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and ha. india lost :k:
My post was in reply to your suggestion of NOT inviting a third weak team. India was the weak link in that tournament because they LOST 7 out of 8.
poor ganguly is fined 80% of his match fee. ![]()
why 'poor Ganguly'? He is responsible for the over rate..and that too in the crucial conditions as yday when the match could have abandoned if less than 25 overs were bowled!!!..fine is purely justified!
Indian team fined for slow over rate in ODI](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)
SYDNEY (AFP) - International Cricket Council (ICC) Match Referee Clive Lloyd said he had fined India for a slow over-rate during the rain-reduced triangular one-day series international against Australia here.
Captain Sourav Ganguly was also charged with a level two breach of the ICC’s Code of Conduct in that the slow over rate constituted time wasting. His fines totalled 80 percent of his match fee.
Lloyd Friday informed the Indian players and team management they had finished the Sydney Cricket Ground match on Friday three overs short of the required rate.
Under the sanctions outlined in the ICC’s Code of Conduct, each player receives a fine of five percent of his match fee for each of the first five overs that the side is behind, while the captain receives a 10 percent fine for each over that his team is down.
Each Indian player was fined 15 per cent of his match fee, with captain Ganguly receiving a 30 percent fine.
The time wasting charge meant an additional fine of 50 percent of his match fee meaning a total of 80 percent.
Fast bowler Brett Lee hoisted a last-gasp six off the third-last ball as Australia stole a two-wicket victory from India.
Lee scored nine runs in three balls as Australia reached the rain-reduced target with one ball remaining.
Winning runs were for Hookes, says Lee](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/040123/323/ek4u0.html)
SYDNEY (AFP) - Brett Lee says he dedicated his match-winning runs in the one-day cricket international victory over India to the memory of David Hookes.
Hookes, a former Test batsman and coach of the Victoria state cricket side, died in hospital on Monday after suffering massive head injuries when allegedly struck during a dispute outside a Melbourne pub late on Sunday.
Fast bowler Lee hoisted a six off the third-last ball to steer Australia to a two-wicket victory over India at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
“The guys really wanted to do it for Hookes,” Lee told a Sydney radio station on Friday.
"It’s been a tragic week not only for his family but the whole cricketing world.
"It’s been a terrible thing what has happened and the guys really felt yesterday, there was a fair bit of emotion out there, and we really wanted to walk away with a win.
“I think deep down somebody was watching and helping us last night when we were out there for those last couple of balls.”
Lee, whose place in the team was in doubt after he was smashed for 83 runs by India in Brisbane earlier in the week, scored 12 runs off nine balls, including a massive six which left Australia needing one run from the last two balls.
Lee said he steeled himself for the task after fellow batsman Andy Bichel told him to back himself.
“The ball came and I shut my eyes and swung as hard as I could and the ball sailed over the fence – happy days,” he said.
Lee said it had been a tough month but he had tried to beat the pressure by staying cheerful.
“There’s times when you might have some bad luck and you just can’t change what’s happened. If I’m out there and I’m smiling and I’m having a really good time, that’s when I always play my best cricket,” he said.
“I knew I was under a fair bit of pressure last night but I thought the best way to go about this was to go out and really enjoy myself.”
^^ yeh rite ofcourse he closed his eyes and swung for the ball, come on ur in a tense situation, it was 50/50 out there and britney is saying, he closed his eyes and swung for the ball, give over ![]()

India win by 3 runs. A great effort by Zimbabwe and shame they blew it in the last over when the match was theirs for the taking. Good last over by Bangar.
Well played India and Very well played Zimbabwe.
great effort by zimbabwe, hope they can win a match one day :k:
mna I am really behnd Zimbvabwe, cuz they just cameso close damn these thrillers, can some one post what exactly happened ballto ball in the last over, how many runs were required and did any wickets fall
Laxman’s stike rate was still low ![]()
Zimbabve deserved to win this match. I really feel sorry for them. They had the match in a strong position with wickets in hand…but then the inexperience of their batsmen showed. It was definetly a thrilling match to watch and the 2 catches Laxman took in the match were amzaing as well :k:
