Vaughan has played in just a handful of one-day internationals
Michael Vaughan says he would regard it as a “massive honour” to captain England’s one-day side but confesses he is not yet sure if he is ready for the job.
Vaughan gave an interview for the BBC on the same day it was announced that Nasser Hussain’s successor would not be named until the end of April.
The Yorkshireman, rated the best Test batsman in the world, said: "I’ve said from the word go if the captaincy was offered there’s no way I could refuse.
"Whether I’m ready I don’t know. I haven’t done much captaincy and experience-wise I’ve got very little.
"What I could bring to the game and the team again you just don’t know.
"First and foremost I want to continue batting in the top three, score as many runs as I can and try to establish myself in the one-day game like I have in the Test team.
“Whether it would burden me I don’t know. It might bring the best out of me, you never know but you can only learn these things by going out there and having a go.”
