Vaughan loses top spot in world ratings

LONDON: Michael Vaughan reign as the world’s top-ranked batsman has been cut short after his failure in England’s first test against Zimbabwe.

Australia’s Matthew Hayden quickly regained his place at the top after Vaughan, looking out of sorts, managed just eight runs in England’s innings and 92-run win at Lord’s on Saturday.

Vaughan, the top run-scorer in world cricket last season, had replaced Hayden in the PricewaterhouseCoopers test ratings in April. Hayden averaged 63.16 in Australia’s 3-1 test series win over West Indies earlier this month.

Marcus Trescothick is the next Englishman in the batting list in 18th place while man-of-the-match Mark Butcher, who made 137 and took five wickets against Zimbabwe, is 21st.

Shaun Pollock, due to arrive in England in June for South Africa’s five-test tour, tops the bowling ahead of Australian Glenn McGrath and Sri Lanka’s off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

Shaun Pollock??!! :eek:

Wasim bhai :jhanda::jhanda:

I agree to the Wasim Bhai comment but I didnt get the Shaun Pullocak one. Look at his average… dont you think he deserves to be there??? I mean in all fairness he is a good bowler. I’d say very good bowler, he really keeps a very tight line and length and rarley gives a batmsne something to work with.

These ratings are non sense, I remember Salim Elahi got into top 5 when he scored a century against South Africa.

keep the top spot reserved for 10dulkar sahab wait till he comes back from injury. + jimmy is another good prospect he is a star for the future

Shaun's average is awesome but for some reason I think Murli deserves to be at the top followed by Shane Warne even though he's banned.

I personally dont agree with a lot of these ratings but I dont know what ratings you have been following cause Saleem Elahi was never even in top 30 batsmen in the PwC ratings.

Yeah he was, go check the PWC archives from December 2002, when scored 130 odd against South Africa and had a successfull tour of Zimbabwe, he was #1 ahead of Tendulkar and co.

His currentley ranked at 49th position with a rating of 522 points. His highest ever rating was 562 points VS Namibia in 2003. Even at that time his rank was 39. So he was never in the top 5.

So are you saying he recieved more pts for scoring 62 runs against Namibia then scoring back to back centuries against South Africa and Zimbabwe.
You maybe right about this ranking but I remember back when I was in Pakistan in december, they showed him as #1 batsman.

I never claimed in knew how the rating system worked so I have no idea why he didnt have more points after back to back centuries. I do know he was never in top 30 in PwC ratings. You might be right that some other rating might have put him at # 1 spot but I doubt it. Personally I dont think he deserves that spot anyway. People like Inzimam, Youhana, Sachin, Ponting, Lara would be justified at that spot not Elahi.

I agree and I apologize, it wasn’t PWC but it was some cheap Indian rating which claimed Elahi as number 1 one day batsman in the world, here is the link.
