Van Basten and Klinsmann

Both Germany and Holland have introduced their new National Team coaches.
For Holland it’s former star player Marco van Basten and for Germany it’s Jurgen Klinsmann.
Whoa! That’s gonna be one exciting WC 2006 in Germany :hula:

Marco Van Basten has been confirmed as the new Holland coach.
The 39-year-old Ajax reserve coach replaces Dick Advocaat who resigned after Holland lost to Portugal in the Euro 2004 semi-finals.

Van Basten, who claimed the European player of the year award three times, has reportedly signed a deal which will take him to 2008.

The Dutch football association (KNVB) has confirmed that Ajax’s John van’t Schip will be van Basten’s assistant.

Van’t Schip, who was also on the coaching staff at Ajax, played for the Amsterdam club, Genoa and Holland as a midfielder, earning 41 caps for his country.

Van Basten was one of the leading lights of Dutch football before a knee injury forced him to end his playing career in 1995.

The former Ajax and AC Milan striker made his debut for Holland against Iceland in 1983 and went on to score 24 goals in 58 appearances.

His goals helped Holland claim European Championship glory in 1988.

Van Basten is the second national coach from the 1988 team after Frank Rijkaard, who was in charge of the Dutch squad between 1998 and 2000.

Klinsmann targets glory

Jurgen Klinsmann has set his sights on winning the 2006 World Cup after taking over officially as Germany’s new coach.
The former Inter Milan and Tottenham striker, 39, has signed a two-year deal and replaces Rudi Voller, who resigned after a poor showing at Euro 2004.

“I know that the fans in our country have one wish - to win the 2006 World Cup. That is also my aim,” he said.

“The potential to do that is there. We can do something, just like the Greeks did at the Euro 2004 tournament.”

Klinsmann will work with former Germany striker Oliver Bierhoff, who has signed a two-year deal to be team manager.

The German Football Association (DFB) says his assistant will be named next week.

Experienced coach Holger Osieck turned down the chance to be Klinsmann’s number two on Tuesday.

Klinsmann added: "It’s a difficult task before us, but one which I believe Oliver and I can do.

“It was important to me that I had someone beside me who I understand totally. We have found that man in Oliver.”

Former AC Milan striker Bierhoff, 36, said: "I will take care of all the off-pitch matters.

“Naturally, I will offer Jurgen bits of advice but I will not influence his team selection.”

Klinsmann started his professional career with VfB Stuttgart in 1988 before moving to Inter and then on to French side Monaco.

He then enjoyed a successful season with Spurs and was named footballer of the year by English football writers in 1995.

The keen traveller in him took Klinsmann back to Germany, and two years at Bayern Munich were followed by another spell in Italy with Sampdoria and a six-month loan move to White Hart Lane.

After retiring from playing following the 1998 World Cup, he worked in sports marketing in California, and also acted as an advisor to Major League side Los Angeles Galaxy. **

‘Let’s get behind Klinsmann’

Klinsmann was a great player back in the day - he helped Germany out back then as a player - and i think he could help Germany now as a coach - Great players are looking for a chance to take control and Klinsmann has gotten his - the fact that he has very little coaching experience may help Germany out - Klinsman can bring new and creative ideas that could puzzle other teams - Being new doesn’t necessarily mean bad but it could be different and being different can be very dangerous.

--------------Hildebrand----------------

If Klinsmann is smart that will be his lineup now already - not only because Ballack and Frings are oldest players(the average age must be around 22) - but also because all of these players already are at a very high level - they are the foundation of Germnay’s furture in soccer!

what y’all think?

Re: Van Basten and Klinsmann
