Participating in a Valima reception in a few months. Wanted to know if anyone did anything special on that occassion for either the bride and groom or for their guests. It seems like a lot of thought and planning is put into the days leading up to and including the shaadi…but less focus on the Valima. Any ideas?

If ur from ladkay walay you can do a lot... Valima is basically guy's side func... so you can give wedding favours to the guests.. Groom's sister's/cousins can throw petals on the bride and groom as they enter the hall/venue..

I went to a very nice valima a few months ago. When the bride and groom walked in, everyone in the hall stood up and clapped. Then, once everyone settled down, then the groom's brother gave a nice toast and everyone had sparkling grape juice poured out into champagne glasses. Then I believe it was the groom's best friend that gave a short and entertaining speech. It was really well coordinated. After dinner was served, they had a short slide show presentation of the bride and groom's pictures from childhood until their marriage. Usually valima's are just food and people leaving early. However, this valima was very well coordinated and had some entertaining aspects.

At my cousins valima, we had a drinks reception with canapes. Then once everyone was seated in the main hall, the couple walked in hand in hand, went straight to the cake cutting, which was good as everyone was seated and got a good view, then sat down. The brides cousin then did a recitation of a surah from the quran. Then starters were served and in between started and mains there were speeches from groom's bro and best man. After dinner the couple did the rounds, and people were called up in groups for pics.
Zara, doesn't the groom's family give favours at the shaadi?

Dunno what it's called - but when they give out dry dates etc, but when we put our pouches/boxes together we put in chocs, and a small token.

Well there are lots of things tht can be done on the valima Ive noticed that most of the things are done on the baarat such as dood paali cake cutting and givivng out bidd but for the valima you can have a slide show of the couple gowing up and have family photos the engagement photos...also before the bride and the groom walk in have the dj introduce the two families the brides side and them the grooms side and then last the couple walk in. There can be cake cutting on both days not just on the baarat. you can also have the close family and friends give speeches and wish the couple well since they are officially a couple. So you can do lots of things on the valima
