I think if you do it the right way it won’t look cheesy. Just have to know how to balance.
Although my wedding is not on V day. I am planning on a having a Valentine theme. Mainly because red colors itself is so romantic. My own dress will be red. Bridesmaids will be wearing different shades of pink.
In terms of decor although I still haven’t worked everything in detailed yet, but as centerpieces I am gonna have red heart or square shaped candles in various sizes & scatter hot pink flower petals around them. Stage is the only thing that won’t be read though.
Might also do either ivory chair covers with red or pink sashes or do pink chair covers with red sashes but then that might be too ott.
For favors I am ordering Russel Stover’s candy in heart shaped boxes. Will tie a maroon ribbon on them & attach a tiny thank you note. 
Still confused about the cake. I LOVE chocolate cake with chocolate icing. Thinking about adding strawberries though. Don’t wanna make it look tacky but ah man I still have to do a lot of research.
