Re: Valentine's day culture

who have made this laakhon ka mamla.. nikah to masjid main molvi saheb muft main padha dete hain.. walime main kisi ko khajoor bhi khila do to maut nahin pad jae gi so called enlightened society ko.

Media does lot of things.. that doesn't increase their credibility. This all V-day is just a commercial crap. Desi couples are more sincere to each other (look at divorce rate in our society). This suits to socities, where concepts like 'personal space' and 'privacy' are followed religiously, even you have to put you aged parents in oldage homes. After all these efforts (read as selfishness), they need to revive their love through these stupid shallow days. Our part of the world is attracted towards these things as something new, but I believe that desi society will shun these days after few years.

Re: Valentine’s day culture

Our society cant afford these luxuires of being shallow in the name of vulgarity. As Jolie mentioned, V-day is not as cheesy in west as in our part of the World. People do deviate from roots. In 1960s , there was Hippy culture at peek in Pakistan… wine, heroin was consumed freely, but that doesn’t mean that everyone in society accepted it as integral part of society. Same will happen to V-day very soon.

Re: Valentine's day culture

In high schools and universities, student organizations arrange for selling flowers a couple weeks before V-day and delivering to the right person (whichever class they are in) on the day of. The note usually says, "from your secret admirer", but some people make their identities known. It's a big deal for teenagers. You can say it's taken as a popularity contest to see who gets how many flowers and who is dating whom. But once people get into professional fields and other priorities take over, valentines day is generally not made into a big deal. Grown up couples usually have a special dinner with their significant other, exchange big or small gifts, propose (if they're at that stage), and maybe more. But it's done quietly; there isn't as much buzz. PDA already isn't an issue in the west. On V-day you might see a bit more than usual.

I don't celebrate except this one year when my group of single girl friends decided to use the day as an excuse to get together over dinner and a movie, and we trash talked guys. That was fun.
