Vaccinations

Did you have your kids vaccinated? I did, and alhamdulillah my kids are well and in good health. With so much bad press about vaccinations and their cntents so many parents havn’t had them vaccinated. Did you/ would you?

Re: Vaccinations

I did but recently a lot of my friends have opted out or have gone with a safer vacination schedule which spaces the vaccines out. If I had to do it over again - I would have opted out for some of them as well.

Re: Vaccinations

in Canada, kids can NOT attend schools if they are NOT up-to-date with their vaccinations. so, there is no choice but to have kids vaccinated in Canada.

Re: Vaccinations

^ it's the same in the US, **except **that you can claim an exemption from vaccinations per religious/personal beliefs. You have to apply for a waiver from the State health department, and get a notarized affidavit to submit to the school. I have a few students in my kids school who have never received any type of immunization.

Re: Vaccinations

Just curious, which vaccines would you as parents have opted out for your kids? Why those and not the others?

Re: Vaccinations

i think it's not the case here in Canada regarding personal exemptions...in public schools, it's mandatory...my niece recently was told to stay home if her vaccination records were not submitted at the school...there was NO mention of any exemptions. well, i think it's in the best interest of the child to have him/her vaccinated against ALL known diseases. some people ignore travel vaccinations...i think it's as important as regular mandatory vaccines. right?

Re: Vaccinations

^ I agree, and we discourage it as well, however there are some parents who are opposed to vaccinations for various reasons, some are religious reasons (though I don't understand what those objections would be) so their is a protocol for in place for those people.

Re: Vaccinations

Why do parents opt out of vaccinations? it protects their kids from potentially lethal diseases...

Maybe in the US they are expensive?

Re: Vaccinations

It's not a cost issue...you can go to any county health department and get them for free if you do not have medical insurance. Here are some reasons I've heard for not getting kids their vaccinations:

Increasing studies linking some vaccinations to autism & asperger's

Religious beliefs that God cures all and medical interference is unnecessary

I've heard from some Muslim parents that they are dubious of the "ingredients" used and traces of formaldahyde, mercury and other additives left in the body

Re: Vaccinations

Professor Meadows/Summers/Mountains whatever he was called who did that dumb research im sure he is prison now for faking results.

Of course God is all powerful but isnt that the same as - i will stand in the middle of the road and got will stop a car from hitting me.

I cannot comment on the ingredients etc.

Vaccinations

Yes the research he did had results that were tampered with to show the conclusion that vaccines lead to autism. However, I decided to break apart the twinkies vaccines as much as I could. Vaccines make me get all antsy but I trust Allah and May he keep all the kids safe!!!

Re: Vaccinations

i'm sorry but you should NOT take a chance with your kid's well-being because they are dependent on you and your decisions CAN affect them tremendously, God forbid! you may make decisions about yourself but plz be careful with kids. i'm extremely sorry if i offended u in any way. :(

Re: Vaccinations

Is this so? I never knew of is, he faked the results so why are some parents still not vaccinating othe than the ingredients?

Re: Vaccinations

because the media hyped the faked dangers (re: autism) so much that that is what became ingrained in people's minds. on top of that, you get all the crackpots on the internet who are convinced their is a connection spreading this false information. if anyone was to google, they would think the dangers are very true.

the more recent news of his faking the results wasn't so big in comparison.

the medical community is in agreement that there is NO link between the mmr vaccine and autism.

vaccinations have almost irradicated some terrible infectious diseases. if more people started refusing vaccinations we would definitely see them returning.

Re: Vaccinations

what I don't like year by year the number of vaccinations keeps increasing in US. Why is it mandatory to get a chicken pox vaccination?

Re: Vaccinations

maybe the medical community agrees on this one but many parents of autistic kids don't. I think the jury is still out on this one from a parent's perspective.

Re: Vaccinations

I have a brother with aspergers so it would be easy for me to think this way as well.

Parents want answers, that's natural. I wonder if they would have still made *this *link or even thought about a link between the mmr and autism if it was not for that single high profile publication.

Re: Vaccinations

None taken, I did get them vaccinated but I told the ped that I wanted to break apart the vaccines so they wouldnt be clustered together and too many things going inside their tiny body at one specific time. The ped was more than happy to work with us to break them apart. They still got all their vaccines. They were just two to three weeks apart. There are parents who opt out of the vacicnes because people have blown this doctor's finding into the universal truth that autism is caused by vaccines. Maybe there is a chance that it is, but this doctor tampered with the results as well to show that vaccines do cause autism. There are enough parents with children who have a child on the autism spectrum who claim vaccines was the root of their kids austism and I dont want to discredit their belief by saying that they aren't right. They live with it, and you know your child. Hence, vacicnes make me antsy but my kids are totally upto date with their vaccination. I wouldn't put my personal opinion and beliefs ahead of my kids.

Re: Vaccinations

good, i'm glad that your kids are well protected...the benefits of vaccinations far out-weigh the feared risks. :) May Allah bless EVER child...aameen :)
