The kids and I are tagging along with the Mr’s work trip to Hong Kong for summer vacation (yes, I know it’s going to be hot, humid, rainy and disgustingly sticky buy no choice, it’s the only time of the year we can all go together for an extended amount of time without the kids having to miss school)..anyhoo…The itinerary so far is Hong Kong as the home base as that’s where husband’s office is…once he’s done with work we’re going to Macau and then Beijing. I had initially intended to include Shanghai on the list as well, but multiple people (husband included) who have been are advising against it as they didn’t like it and said there is not much to do or see. I’m contemplating replacing Shanghai with Guangzhou (Canton) as it is relatively close to Hong Kong. Has anyone been? Also, while in Beijing, I’m thinking about allocating extra time to include a day trip to Xi’an to see the Terra Cotta Warriors. I’ve been researching the high speed train and the night train from Beijing to Xi’an, has anyone done this before? Any pointers? We’ll be booking everything relatively soon (January) so I need to finalize the itinerary..help!
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
I'm jealous! let me know how you find it? :)
And enjoy
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
Thanks dude! I’m ridiculously excited lol. The Mr has been working in HK for the past 15 months or so (he goes every 4-5 weeks) so we’re finally taking advantage! I’ll definitely share a detailed trip report here ![]()
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
Do you what would be amazing - going to Thailand from Hong Kong - its less than a 3 hour flight to Bangkok, and is actually closer to HK than Beijing. Round out your trip by going to Bangkok and maybe Phuket (the beaches!!!!) Now that would be a phenomenal time!!!! And the hotels are soooooooooooooooooooooooo cheap in Thailand. Flights are about $200 per person.
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
Issi ko plan karnay main dimagh kharaab horaha hai and now you want me to throw Thailand into the mix?!? ![]()
The Mr’s boss also suggested some resort in the Phillipines which is a 2 hr flight from HK…I’ll have to set these up for the next trip lol
Abhi ke liye tell me what you know about Xi’an, did you go see the Terra Cotta Warriors?
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
Oooh, lucky lucky! I definitely think you should see the Warriors and I have heard good things about Macau. It's not to be missed.
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
Macau is beautiful, go there.
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
No, only saw Beijing, Hong Kong, and Macau). Macau is a single day trip - don’t need more than one day to see and do Macau. Get there for noon or earlier - spend the day there, and come back after being blinded by the OTT glitz (it’s like Vegas on steroids) and then take the late Turboprop back to Hong Kong.
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
I’d suggest Guilin - Wikipedia for a summer trip. Not far from HK.
Re: Vacation Planning Hong Kong/China
I have visited Beijing but was not this organized. It was in mid 90s and china was not this open to the rest of the world. Only place I knew before hand that I'll visit were Great Wall and Tienanmen Square. I realized later on that 1 week was not enough to even enjoy Beijing properly. Must visit places in (and around Beijing)
Great Wall
Tienanmen Square
Forbidden City
Summer Palace
Many Museums
Temple of Heaven
and i dont remember the rest :)
